These 2 Teacher Adviser posts are an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing team within Education Inclusion who are committed to improving educational outcomes for pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) in Newport. The ALN team sit within the central Education Service and work closely with school-based staff, children's services colleagues and other agencies in order to improve the education experience and learning outcomes for all ALN learners. The current team has one Teacher Advisor, two Senior Teacher Advisers and two Inclusion Advisers and also works very closely with the ALN team and Educational Psychology Service as part of the wider Inclusion Enrichment Team.
The Inclusion Advisory Service provides advice in relation to good practice within the extensive area of ALN and offers support to education professionals regarding effective implementation of Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act to ensure that the Local Authority and schools are ready to implement changes in legislation in a timely manner.
The current number of Teacher Adviser posts are being increased to backfill, following internal movement within the team. The post holders will also support the Local Authority's priority of reducing the number of days lost and incidents of exclusion in both Primary and Secondary sectors by working with schools to offer advice and guidance in relation to supporting learners with more challenging and complex behaviours which will enable more pupils to maintain their education placements in mainstream settings. The new posts will also develop and maintain effective multi-agency links with other professionals working with children and young people in Newport, ensuring the wellbeing of learners is at the centre of all planning and discussions. The newly appointed Teacher Advisers will also support schools and education settings by providing support, advice and training with the aim advancing whole school development of inclusive practices.
We are seeking to recruit two individuals who are effective, enthusiastic and experienced qualified teachers with a proven track record of leading in the area of ALN within their current or previous school/s. The successful applicants will be expected to undertake a wide variety of tasks including being able to articulate Local Authority approaches that lead to high quality learning for all pupils, particularly those with identified ALN. The successful candidates will need to communicate a genuine desire to develop the practice of others, and secure understanding of priorities in relation to ALN transformation within education.
While not essential, the ability to speak Welsh would be an asset and is warmly welcomed.
This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
