Full time, permanent, non-residential position for September 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Owing to internal promotion, a qualified teacher, or ambitious graduate seeking Qualified Teacher Status in the future, is sought to teach Computer Science and ICT throughout the school, including at GCSE and Level 3.
Our staff are committed and inspirational, transforming the futures of pupils with literacy and language-related additional challenges, by empowering them.
Our School Values are:
Kindness - Spirit - Responsibility
The School:
Nationally celebrated, More House School provides an exceptional, mainstream education for intelligent boys with Specific Learning Difficulties and weakness in their developmental language skills. Providing a transformative education repeatedly recognised as 'Outstanding' by Ofsted over more than a decade, we offer a specialised learning environment for day and boarding boys from Year 4 to Year 13. Our pupils are taught to recognise their strengths and develop their self-belief so that they achieve independence and extraordinary results at GCSE, BTEC and 'A' Level, above the national averages. A majority progress to university.
About the department:
The Computer Science department is based in the very centre of the School's campus, in dedicated computer suites, and is resourced with Clevertouch interactive teaching screens.
Computing, encompassing Digital Literacy, Computer Science and Information Technology, is taught to all pupils in years Four to Eight. Students start learning to write Python code in Year Eight, ready for using it at GCSE. The department has been expanding its teaching of Physical Computing, with BBC Micro:bits and the Raspberry Pi being the current choice of hardware. Key Stages three and four see a focus on GCSE Computer Science and the Tech Award in Digital Information Technology, with both subjects being very popular choices for our pupils.
The Sixth Form programme comprises A' Level Computer Science, which is a popular choice with students progressing to university to read Computer Sciences and related subjects. C# is introduced at A' Level to widen the students' experience of programming. From September the Level 3 Information Technology (AAQ) is also being offered which is already proving popular for those who are more design inclined with the design aspect, and as progression from the Level 2 DIT.
Class sizes are small (up to fifteen) and there is ample opportunity for pupils and teachers to get involved in the School's extensive extra-curricular programme. The highly creative and enthusiastic teaching team is keen to support the children in accessing the curriculum and encourages the boys to recognise their academic and extra-curricular potential. Currently there are both Junior and Senior Coding clubs each week. Students are also encouraged to enter coding and cyber-security competitions.
A key element of the School, evident through all departments, is the offer of a strong pastoral provision, recognising that our pupils may perceive their previous educational experience as a failure, and they therefore need to develop their trust in the School, teachers and themselves.

This is an exciting post for an enthusiastic, talented teacher - either qualified, or a graduate seeking to commence an exciting career in teaching - to develop their enjoyment and expertise in delivering the teaching and learning of computing and programming for pupils aged eight to eighteen, including GCSE and A Level.
In addition to the commitments of the teaching timetable, the post-holder will be a form-tutor, supported and led by the Head of Year. This role requires the post-holder to liaise with teaching staff and parents to support the emotional wellbeing of the pupils and to develop pupils' organisation. Like all full-time staff, the post-holder will also be expected to lead one extra-curricular, after-school activity, on one afternoon a week from 4.30pm until 5.30pm during term-time. The post-holder will participate in the supervision-duty programme, responsible within a team of staff allocated to duties at lunch and break-times, and other times as is necessary. The writing of reports and completion of other records, and the attendance at parent consultation evenings are elements of the role.
A comprehensive induction programme is offered, and ongoing professional development is supported through INSET days and training opportunities. Lunch is provided free of charge, daily, as is parking within the school's beautiful grounds.
The above list of duties is not exhaustive, and the post-holders may be required to perform such other duties as may be, from time to time, deemed necessary by the Headmaster. This is a non-residential post.
More House School offers a teacher-training package to appropriate employees. Where applicable, such an employee would begin their training in their first year, receiving close mentoring and support in the school, developing confidence and experience; after the first year of employment the school will pay for the unqualified teacher to complete their PGCE with Buckingham University, allowing them to progress to the Newly Qualified Teacher programme within the school afterwards.
