We are seeking a passionate and creative Drama Teacher to deliver in person engaging and purposeful sessions aimed at developing oracy skills across Key Stage 3 to Sixth Form. The role will focus on using drama to enhance students' spoken language, confidence, and communication.
In addition to classroom delivery, we are keen to explore the development of a LAMDA programme as an enrichment opportunity, with the potential to offer students formal recognition for their oracy and performance skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging drama-based sessions that enhance students' oracy, including voice work, articulation, presentation, debate, and collaborative communication.
Use a range of drama techniques (e.g., improvisation, role play, monologue, script work) to build students' confidence and speaking skills.
Work with students across KS3, KS4, and Sixth Form, adapting content to suit their age, needs, and abilities.
Foster an inclusive, supportive, and creative environment that encourages participation from all students.
Collaborate with staff to align sessions with wider school literacy and enrichment goals.
Support the initial development of a LAMDA programme, including identifying interested students and laying the groundwork for potential future examination entries.
Leading and developing the Ruthin School Oracy prize.
Person Specification:
Essential:
Experience teaching drama or leading drama-based workshops with secondary-age students.
Strong understanding of oracy and how drama can support spoken communication.
Ability to engage and inspire students of all abilities and age groups (KS3-KS5).
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Enthusiasm for developing enrichment opportunities.
Commitment to supporting student achievement and well-being.
Desirable:
Experience with LAMDA examinations (preparation, delivery, or coordination).
Teaching qualification (QTS/PGCE) or equivalent experience.
Background in youth theatre, public speaking, or performance coaching.
Experience delivering extracurricular clubs or enrichment sessions.
Additional Information:
This role may suit a freelance drama practitioner, a part-time teacher, or a specialist seeking flexible hours.
The half-day timetable will be arranged in line with school needs and staff availability.
There is potential for the role to grow, particularly if LAMDA provision is successfully established.
