who is able to teach French to A-Level and the other language to at least Key Stage 3 in our thriving Languages Faculty.
The Languages Faculty at Ibstock includes French, Spanish, German, Mandarin and Classics. There are typically three to four classes of Spanish and French at IGCSE. Numbers at A-Level remain strong across all languages and Ibstonians regularly go on to study Languages at university.
We have a strong record of excellent examination outcomes at both IGCSE and A-Level and are an experienced, friendly and collegiate Languages Faculty of seventeen teachers and Foreign Language Assistants across all of the subjects offered. Trips and visits play an important role in studying a language at Ibstock: the Spanish Department offers an annual trip to pupils in the form of a host family stay in Salamanca as well as a Year 9 trip to Valencia. For French, Year 9 and 10 trips to Rouen take place biennially, as well as a Sixth Form trip to a French-speaking city such as Brussels or Paris.
We also offer a wide range of co-curricular experiences within school such as taking part in, and hosting, debating competitions against other schools, daytrips to study French and Spanish cinema at the BFI, cookery sessions carried out in the target language and competitions such as Translation and Spelling Bees.
