Job overview

----------------

Music at Bishopsgate is at the heart of school life - vibrant, ambitious and full of opportunity.

We are seeking a passionate and committed teacher to join our thriving department as a 0.8 Music Teacher, teaching classroom Music from Year 4 to Year 8 and playing a central role in the rich musical life of the school. The successful candidate will direct our well-established Junior Choir (Years 3 and 4), preparing them for major events such as the Christmas Carol Service, Spring Serenade and Summer Arts Fest, as well as a variety of smaller performances. They will also contribute to the Senior and Chamber Choirs, support our busy programme of ensembles and concerts, and foster a love of music across the school.

A key element of the role is overseeing and supporting our team of 17 peripatetic teachers, liaising with parents, and ensuring the smooth running of instrumental and vocal lessons. The department is exceptionally well-resourced, with whole-class samba and djembe sets, electronic and MIDI keyboards, a wide range of tuned and untuned percussion, and a subscription to Soundtrap for digital music making.

Music is celebrated through regular teatime recitals, chapel performances, assemblies, and large-scale termly showcases. With regular ABRSM exam sessions, half-termly performance opportunities, and strong links with senior schools through collaborative workshops and concerts, this role offers an exciting and rewarding opportunity to inspire young musicians and contribute to the continuing success of our flourishing music department.

As a member of our school community, the successful candidate will also be expected to play an active role in the broader life of the school, including pastoral responsibilities and co-curricular activities. Staff are encouraged to share their interests and talents beyond the classroom to help foster a rich and well-rounded experience for all pupils.
