This role presents a unique opportunity for a passionate classroom music educator to join a thriving programme and work with a diverse study body and wide curriculum. This role involves planning and delivering engaging Music lessons to mixed ability classes across Key Stages 3 and 4, with potential for involvement also in Key Stage 5. Curricular Music is rich, wide and regular at Hatcham; we have a broad Key Stage 3 curriculum that runs all year from Years 7-9, well-enrolled GCSE and BTEC courses at Key Stage 4, and RSL and A-Level Music on offer at Key Stage 5.
Our students love Music. 10% of our pupils are admitted through an audition process as part of our specialism. These music scholars and all pupils have widest of musical opportunities possible that include some 400+ peripatetic lessons each week, a huge variety of ensembles and clubs, and regular trips to concerts throughout London and workshops with local partnering organisations. This is in addition to formal and informal performing opportunities such as our monthly Teatime concerts and larger concerts each term. The core music team is supported by an Instrumental Music Co-ordinator and Music Technicians, and there are some 30+ peripatetic staff beyond this.
Responsibilities in the role include following the programmes of study in preparing for teaching across Key Stages, collaborating with the Music team to plan and deliver this successful offering, and supporting the wider musical life of the College. Participation in co-curricular music events, concerts and ensembles will also form part of the role.
Effective communication with staff, students, and parents is essential, along with acting as a role model to inspire trust and respect. The role also involves employing innovative teaching methods, ongoing professional learning, and maintaining a high standard of music education and musicianship. Collaboration with the Faculty Lead and other academy members is crucial to ensure a cohesive approach to student learning and development.
General responsibilities include promoting equal opportunities, supporting the Trust's EDI policy, and upholding the school's commitment to staff development. The role also requires adherence to health and safety regulations and safeguarding policies. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the school's mission and overall objectives.

This role will be reporting to the Director of Music, with ongoing collaboration also with the 2ic
of Music.
