Length of Contract



Permanent, subject to a probation period of 6 months (extendable up to 12 months at the employer's discretion).

Salary



Competitive. To be discussed and decided at interview.

Contracted Hours



40 hours per week (5 x days).

Monday to Friday - typically 8:15am to 4:15pm, however this may vary throughout the year to reflect the needs of The Fowler Academy and to accommodate college events and/or trips.

Purpose of the Post



The successful candidate will be passionate, enthusiastic and have experience of teaching BTEC Sport & Exercise Science or a related qualification (e.g. BTEC Sport, A-level PE, HNC in Sport & Exercise Science etc.) at Level 3 and, if possible, Level 4.

They will plan, deliver and assess engaging BTEC Sport & Exercise Science lessons.

All staff are expected to show the highest possible personal and professional standards as an example to colleagues, students and parents while promoting good relationships and communication between all members of the FEFA and the wider community. It is essential that they give active support to the vision, ethos and values of the FEFA.

The primary aim of every member of the team, irrespective of their role, is to support students to develop holistically and fulfil their potential in order to enable them to achieve their future ambitions.

Review of Performance



Performance Management reviews will focus on the post holders' responsibilities. There is recognition that however good we are at our job, we should embrace the notion of 'continuous improvement'.

Key Responsibilities



Teaching



To plan, deliver and assess engaging BTEC Sport & Exercise Science lessons lessons, appropriate for an FE setting, which motivate and inspire students to become passionate lifelong learners by:

Undertaking teaching in a variety of settings including 1:1, small group tutorials, class and workshops, and large lectures

Design, plan produce and adapt to learner needs a range of effective and engaging teaching, learning and assessment materials and activities that build on existing practices, motivate students and take account of supportive technologies.

Supporting the effective implementation of our SEND policy through quality first teaching

Having high expectations of all students so that they are able to achieve their academic potential.

Having a sound, up to date working knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and assessment strategies and know how to use them to personalise the learning of FEFA students, ensuring that course delivery engenders a learning environment where diversity of ideas and contributions are welcomed.

Playing a role in the delivery of FEFA's enrichment curriculum, trips and college fixtures calendar.

Planning for the involvement of Learning Support Assistants, and other support or teaching staff, to ensure targeted impact on the achievement of students including those designated as EAL, SEN, Looked After and Disadvantaged.

Quality & Standards



Ensure that the curriculum being delivered is of the highest quality and meets required standards by:

Ensuring that the curriculum is delivered in accordance with the requirements of the Awarding Body and liaise with external bodies and verifiers as required.

Monitoring and evaluating the quality of learning within each lesson.

Participating, with colleagues, in the development of appropriate specifications, lesson materials and schemes of work. Take responsibility for the shared development of these schemes of work that develop cross-curricula skills, knowledge and understanding.

Inspire students and build their understanding by using expert subject knowledge and links with FEFA partners.

Providing written feedback and learning targets for all students within the agreed time period.

Participate in the assessing and tracking of progress towards academic targets and support interventions where there is underachievement.

Meeting all report writing deadlines set throughout the year and ensuring that they are of a high quality.

Completing registers and monitor student attendance at timetabled learning activities, follow up as appropriate and ensure up-to-date recording of withdrawals and results.

Setting work for students who are absent.

Planning cover work that has clear objectives and expected outcomes if absent from FEFA.

Maintaining an up to date understanding of the professional duties of teachers and the statutory framework within which they work in an FE setting.

Student Support

Attending and participating in parent evenings, interview events, open evenings, and any other necessary meetings and/or events.

Leading and implementing an enrichment activity in line with our student programme, if requested to do so by the Assistant Principal and/or Principal.

Upholding and actively supporting FEFA's policies and procedures relating to the safeguarding of young people.

General Responsibilities



General responsibilities of this role include:

Taking part in FEFA's programme of continual professional development (CPD) and engaging, as required, in external CPD.
