Job Description

About us

As Genus Care is owned by the people who run the company on the inside, we make 'child focused, person centred' decisions- not financial or political ones. We aim to positively change the lives of all children living and receiving education with us, to realise their full and often undiscovered potential whilst at the same time keeping them safe, educating them and sticking by them. We will go the extra yard or mile to achieve success.

Whilst offering 1:1 staffing ratios, full-time registered education, individualised therapeutic programmes ('It's My Life'), community inclusion and, above all, the opportunity for all young people to truly 'grow with us', we have a simple philosophy which is based entirely on the needs and best interests of the child: Once they come to live with us we will not fail them by ending their placement either unnecessarily or before the conclusion of their care and support plan.

This philosophy comes from a determination to put an end to the merry-go-round of placement after placement and little to no education that many looked after children get stuck on. To grow one must first have roots and nobody puts down roots if they routinely move.

Are you a caring, sensitive person who wants to teach the children who most
need an education?
Do you want a challenging but rewarding job?
Do you have the ability to make education fun, interesting and appealing?
Do you wish you had more time to focus on those children that need the most help?
Do you want more creative control over your own bespoke curriculum and budget?
Are you honest, committed and reliable?
Do you want to solve problems every day?
Do you want to be part of a team that changes the lives of children for the better?

If the answers are 'Yes' then this may just be the opportunity you've been waiting for. At Genus Care Ltd we look after children aged 6 -18 who have been placed with us by local authorities where they live in small residential homes. Some of these children are educated within the grounds in a fully functional classroom.

We recognise the importance of education, more so in the lives of those unfortunate enough to have missed large pieces of it. Each home has a fully resourced external classroom staffed by a committed, qualified full-time teacher. Genus Education is registered as an Independent school providing a full and varied curriculum, excellent links with mainstream schools, Careers Wales and work experience placements that provide opportunities to progress and experience a wide spectrum of social and educational situations. For the children unable to access both Primary and Secondary mainstream school we are able to ensure they will receive a full curriculum appropriate to their needs and abilities.

All of our classrooms teach between one and three pupils. Each one is a fully registered school and examination centre allowing our teachers to deliver a broad curriculum from Primary to Secondary level and award a broad range of qualifications including Entry Pathways, BTEC and GCSE. The children can display challenging behaviour so we are looking for a strong caring individual who can remain positive at all times while being consistent in their approach and not give up. You will be the same teacher guiding them through each school year, watching them grow, overcome the challenges they face and will build lifelong relationships. The right person will be so much more than a 'teacher' to the children.

We want all our employees to grow with us as our children do, so we are committed to their training and development. We believe that if you invest in people they will be happy in their job, thrive and do well which in turn means happier children and a great organisation to be a part of. In return we expect a high standard of work from our teachers and the ability to motivate the young people they teach. You need to be forward thinking, proactive and innovative. You will teach between 1 - 3 pupils at any one time, be responsible for all of their educational needs. You will work closely with the Headteacher, the home Manager and team of staff and external professionals who are involved in the educational needs of each child. You will be expected to follow all policies and procedures, develop and review Personal Educational Plans to coincide with their Personal Plan, write reports and attend training. Experience of working with children with challenging behaviour and Additional Learning Needs is beneficial.
We also offer a health and well-being package, discretionary bonus as well as there being incentives for being nominated for employee of the month for excellent work. All employees must undergo a DBS check (company to pay), hold a current UK Manual Driving Licence, must be over 23 and pass a 6 month probationary period.
