Are you passionate about making a positive and lasting difference for Deaf children and young people?
Hull City Council is looking for exceptional individuals like you to join the Integrated Physical and Sensory Service - IPASS team. If you have experience of working with Deaf children and young people and have excellent IT and communication skills, then we have an exciting opportunity for you!
We are seeking to recruit a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to our IPASS Sensory Support Service for Deaf Children. You will be required to work flexibly across mainstream settings, for children 0-25 as well as children in the IPASS Primary and Secondary Resource Bases.
A British Sign Language (BSL) level 2 qualification is desirable or willingness to train. A NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification is desired, along with skills and experience of working with young people working across the curriculum. It would be beneficial to have experience in a range of educational environments. This could be pre-school, primary, secondary, special or post-16.
You will have good understanding of IT based systems, including Microsoft Office. A friendly and professional manner is essential as you will be dealing with children and young people, parents, mainstream colleagues and external organisations.
Duties will involve supporting deaf children in their learning environment and enabling their access to the lesson content. You will be expected to plan, prepare and deliver learning activities for individuals/groups under the supervision of a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf. You will be expected to assess, record and report on pupils' achievement, progress and development. You will be required to troubleshoot problems with hearing technology and support the children with their hearing technology management. The role will require using your initiative, as an ability to adjust activities according to pupil responses/needs as necessary. You will need to establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
It is imperative that the successful candidate promotes and safeguards the welfare of children and young people they support.
Duties will also include delivering training to staff, establishing constructive relationships and communication with other agencies/ professionals, in liaison with the teacher to support achievement and progress of pupils.
You must be able to move efficiently between a number of locations in any one day as necessary.
