TEMPORAY TEACHING ASSISTANT (TA) VACANCY: 8.30am to 3.00pm Monday to Friday.



A one year fixed term contract 1st September 2025 - 28th July 2026

Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your interest in this temporary teaching assistant post. This post is temporary due to budgetary constraints. We are looking for someone who has experience of working in a primary school as a teaching assistant or someone with good potential. The role includes working with children 1:1 and in small groups to carry out specific activities and programmes. There is also in-class support, playtime duties and lunchtime supervision included in the role. Full induction, support and training will available, as needed.

Candidates do need a good level of numeracy, grammar, punctuation, spelling, reading and writing proficiency to be successful in this role. Pass grades in both maths and English at GCSE level are a requirement. An NVQ3 or higher is an acceptable alternative qualification. The post could be located in lower or upper school depending on the experience of the successful candidate.

Purpose of post

To support the classroom teachers in the delivery of the curriculum.

To lead groups.

To support individuals as needed in and out of class.

To lead a playtime and lunchtime duty each day.

To work collaboratively within a strong team.

Main duties and responsibilities in more detail

To undertake activities with either individuals or groups of children to ensure their safety and facilitate their educational, emotional and physical development.

To undertake the duties of a first-aid supervisor (if and when qualified).

To help children with personal care, if needed, and clean-up "spoiled" areas as required.

To promote and reinforce the children's self- esteem and encourage positive attitudes and social interaction.

To make and display teaching aids (e.g. by constructing models or mounting charts).

To prepare teaching materials (e.g. mix paint, cut paper), check and store after session and offer assistance with displays.

To monitor individual children's needs and report this to the class teacher as appropriate.

To assist the class teacher in the planning of work programmes for individuals and groups of children and developing extended activities.

To assist the class teacher in assessing and recording pupils' progress.

To carry out playtime and lunchtime duties each day. Staff employed at the school are not paid for breaks (15 minutes in the morning before or after playtime and 30 minutes after the children's lunch hour).

To accompany children off school premises for trips etc. as directed by the class teachers.

To attend relevant staff meetings as required, to participate in training, other learning activities and Performance Management.

Carry out other duties commensurate with the post and at the direction of the line manager.
