EYFS Teaching Assistant

Grade 3, 25,185 - 25,989 pro rata

Temporary, Full time, 8:30 am - 4:30pm

As soon as possible - 2nd March 2026 onwards until 20th July 2026



Sherburn Primary School is seeking to employ a Grade 3 Teaching Assistant to work in EYFS to join our friendly team. We are a welcoming, caring school. We have extensive school grounds. We achieved our Platinum PE Award, we are currently busy implementing OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) and further developing our outdoor provision. Our EYFS Lead is also the Forest School Lead and EYFS children spend weekly sessions in the forest school setting. The successful candidates employment will start on the 2nd March and the contract will end at the end of the Summer Term, 31.08.2026. Although the post is fixed term in the first instance and temporary, there may be scope for it to be extended for at least another year.



The post holder will be working in our EYFS setting where there is a high level of SEND and will spend some of their time working with children on a 1:1 basis.



The successful candidate will demonstrate skills in the following areas:

Have experience of effectively supporting teaching in Nursery and Reception settings High standards of standards of classroom practice Assisting with delivering programmes of learning and running regular interventions for individuals and groups Experience of working with children on the SEND register, some of whom may have challenging behavioural needs. Meet all the essential criteria on the Durham County Council Grade 3

Good ICT skills, the ability to communicate well with parents and a willingness to work flexibly throughout the school as and when needed are also an advantage.



Applicants must hold a qualification that meets the approved full and relevant criteria for Early Years qualifications and inclusion in staffing ratios.

Hours of work : 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Calculation of term time only plus two weeks pay



Term time only plus two additional weeks pay is calculated on the basis of the following:

- Number of teaching weeks - 38 weeks; plus

- Public (bank) holidays - 1.6 weeks (8 days); plus

- Two additional weeks, inclusive of CPD - 2 weeks; plus

- Individual leave entitlement - 5.4 weeks (27 days) or 6.4 weeks (32 days)

Individual leave entitlement is calculated on the length of continuous service. Employees with less than 5 years service will receive 27 days annual leave. Employees with more than 5 years service will receive 32 days annual leave. For example:



Calculation for employees with less than 5 years service:

40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 47 weeks pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments



Calculation for employees with more than 5 years service:

40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 48 weeks pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments
