Job Description

The Croft Preparatory School is an independent co-educational day school for children from 2 to 11 years old, situated in a beautiful 30-acre site, in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside, on the outskirts of Stratford upon Avon.

School Days/Hours:

Monday to Friday

10.00am to 6.00pm

during term time (when school is in session); 35 weeks per year.

Job Purpose:



10am to 3.30pm

: To support the Teachers/Key Group Leaders in order to deliver effective teaching and learning, promoting the intellectual, social and emotional development of children. Primarily in Little Crofters area (age 2-4 years) but can assist in any year group of the school.

3.30pm to 6pm:

To administer and work as part of the Wraparound team to deliver a caring and stimulating after school provision which meets the individual needs of the children attending and complies with statutory requirements.

Person Specification:



You will have a

Level 3 qualification

in childcare (

this is a requirement

). Ideally you will have some experience working with children with Special Educational Needs.

You will have experience in establishing and developing positive relationships with children and colleagues. Ideally you will have experience in an educational setting.

: Wraparound Leader role (3.30pm to 6pm)



The hourly rate of pay, for Wraparound is 13.90 due to working after school hours

Foster and promote positive links between home and school, acting as an ambassador for the Croft and maintaining good communication with parents Lead in coordinating the day to day administration and record keeping relating to the Wraparound provision, liaising with parents and submitting signing in sheets and registers to the Finance Department in a timely manner, for processing Assist pupils with healthy after school snack Escort pupils safely and in an orderly manner to their designated area of the School in time for the start of Wraparound and liaise with their parent/guardian at the end of the school day, ensuring any relevant information is passed to the relevant person Assist in ensuring that all policies and procedures relating to the care are reviewed regularly, are up to date and compliant with statutory requirements and best practice is in operation Ensure that the Wraparound facilities and equipment are maintained in good order and are used and stored safely and appropriately Deal effectively and appropriately with challenging behaviour in line with the School's practices Plan and prepare a range of interesting, high quality & varied play opportunities, co-ordinating sessions which cater for a range of needs, as well as respecting children's life experiences & celebrating diversity Liaise as a team to co-ordinate staffing requirements for the provision Assist in the ordering and purchasing of materials for the provision in liaison with colleagues

: Learning Assistant role (10am to approx 3.30pm)



The hourly rate of pay, for LA is 12.90

Assist with activities and with the educational and social development of the child under the direction and guidance of the Teachers, Key Group Leaders or SENDCo as appropriate. Help pupils to stay focused on tasks, and interact with them to encourage them to develop their skills by offering consistent support, appropriate to their individual needs. Assist in the implementation and delivery of the Individual Education Programme and small group intervention for the child, both inside and outside of the classroom and help monitor their progress. Contribute to the monitoring and recording of progress, by observing and evaluating child's performance during activities, feeding information back to Teachers/Key Group Leader and recording, as required. Support Teachers/Leaders by contributing positively to planning, using ICT and other resources creatively, and ensuring that learning objectives and strategies are delivered effectively. Support and encourage children to work co-operatively and appropriately with others, whilst also developing and promoting independence. Support in preparing and maintaining an effective learning environment, by preparing materials and resources, ensuring that equipment is used safely and appropriately. Display the children's work in an imaginative and attractive manner. Supervise pupils at break and lunchtimes, ensuring that they are actively engaged and involved in play, and that their health, safety and general well-being is being taken care of. Take part in school events and activities, as required. Provide appropriate personal care and comfort to the child. Ensure that their emotional needs are met, whilst at all times ensuring that both safeguarding and confidentiality requirements are met. Promote positive behaviour, in line with School policies and through the use of praise and encouragement Support pupils with SEND to access extra-curricular activities. Support children with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills and independence. Comply with school policies and procedures related to child protection and safeguarding, health and safety, equal opportunities, and whistle blowing. Contribute to the school's improvement planning and self-evaluation processes, through monitoring the impact of additional interventions and in-class support. Support the running of lunchtime and after-school clubs for pupils. Escort and supervise pupils on educational visits and out-of-school activities, as required. Support and maintain collaborative, productive working relationships with school staff and professionals from external agencies. Work flexibly to contribute to the overall ethos and aims of the School. Liaise with pupils, their parents/carers, teachers and practitioners from external agencies, to support pupils' learning and well-being. Take responsibility in developing your own continuing professional development.
