Pioneer House High School is a special school in Northern Moor providing education for pupils aged 11-19 with significant additional needs. We are proud of our strong vocational focus, supporting students in developing the skills and confidence they need to progress into supported or independent employment, further education, internships, or apprenticeships.
We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant Level 1 (SEN) to join our experienced and passionate team, supporting pupils across the school in achieving their full potential.
This is a permanent post working 35 hours per week, term time only plus 5 INSET days. The starting salary is 21,662 and the full time equivalent is 25,185 Grade 3. This role is to start as soon as pre-employment checks are complete
About the role:
As a Teaching Assistant Level 1 SEN, you will work under the supervision of teaching staff and the senior leadership team to support pupils' learning, wellbeing, and development. You'll play a vital role in helping pupils to become happy, confident and successful young adults.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting small groups of children and implementing Individual Learning Plans
Assisting with supervision during teacher absence (short periods)
Providing feedback on pupil progress and maintaining records
Ensuring equal access to learning for all pupils
Participating in relevant training and development
Demonstrating commitment to performance management and continuous improvement
Communicating effectively and professionally with pupils, staff, parents, and external agencies
We're Looking for applicants who:
Have an understanding of the Teaching Assistant role and child development and learning
Possesses strong literacy and numeracy skills (qualified to Level 2 or above)
Works effectively as part of a team and is committed to high professional standards
Is tactful, diplomatic, and able to build positive relationships with all stakeholders
Has experience or a keen interest in working with children or young people with communication difficulties, severe, profound, or complex learning needs
Can communicate clearly and confidently in spoken English
