Responsibilities
Work
directly alongside the teacher
to support one learner at a time in a
2:1 setting
.
Assist in preparing and adapting learning materials to meet the individual student's needs.
Support the learner during one-to-one tasks by reinforcing instructions, modelling skills, and promoting engagement.
Observe and record progress, sharing key information with the teacher to inform next steps.
Promote a calm, positive, trauma-informed learning environment.
Support the learner with emotional regulation, transitions, confidence-building, and readiness to learn.
Communicate professionally with parents or guardians when required regarding learner participation and wellbeing.
Work collaboratively with the teacher, SEND staff and other professionals to support students with additional needs.
Maintain accurate records related to attendance, observations and support notes.
Requirements
Experience working with children in an educational, support, or SEN environment.
Understanding of trauma-informed practice.
Experience supporting Functional Skills or basic literacy/numeracy is desirable.
Knowledge of SEND strategies and special educational needs support is highly beneficial.
Strong communication skills and the ability to follow guidance from the lead teacher.
Patience, empathy, and a supportive approach to working with children.
Ability to maintain a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, SEN, or a related field are advantageous.
