NexGen Academy is seeking a skilled and committed Teaching Assistant to support the academic, social, and emotional development of our students. This role is particularly suited to someone with strong experience supporting children with additional educational needs (AEN/SEND) and a passion for inclusive, high-quality education.
You'll work closely with teaching staff to deliver engaging lessons, lead small group interventions, and occasionally supervise whole classes. You'll also contribute to planning, assessment, and pastoral care, helping every child thrive.
Required Qualifications & Experience
A recognised qualification in childcare or teaching assistance (minimum Level 2)
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above)
Proven experience working with children in KS3-KS4
Substantial experience supporting pupils with SEND, learning difficulties, or barriers to learning
Strong understanding of the national curriculum and inclusive teaching practices

Skilled in behaviour management and pastoral support
A proactive, empathetic approach to teamwork and pupil wellbeing
Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise with staff, parents, and external professionals
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
Support pupils' learning through structured activities and tailored interventions
Deliver Literacy and Numeracy programmes to small groups
Supervise whole classes during short-term teacher absence
Collaborate with teachers on lesson planning and resource preparation
Promote inclusion and equal access for all pupils, especially those with SEND
Assessment & Progress
Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to staff, pupils, and parents
Contribute to assessment and reporting for targeted support
Assist in maintaining and analysing pupil records
Behaviour & Pastoral Support
Provide care and emotional support for pupils, including those who are sick, injured, or distressed
Encourage self-esteem, independence, and positive behaviour
Uphold safeguarding and child protection procedures
Supervise pupils during break and lunch times, including leading activities
Teamwork & Development
Support and mentor other teaching assistants
Participate in staff meetings, INSET days, and school-wide initiatives
Contribute to the development of school policies and inclusive practices
