Job Description

Job Purpose



To support children and young people with

autism and complex/challenging behaviours

to access learning, develop independence, and regulate emotions within a safe, structured, and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities Pupil Support



Support pupils with

autism, sensory needs, communication difficulties, and behaviours that challenge

Implement

individual education plans (IEPs), behaviour support plans, PBS plans, and risk assessments

Use

low-arousal, trauma-informed, and autism-affirming approaches

Support emotional regulation and co-regulation Promote independence, confidence, and self-esteem Support personal care where required, with dignity and respect

Learning Support

Work with individuals or small groups under the direction of the class teacher

Behaviour Support



Respond calmly and consistently to challenging behaviour Use

de-escalation strategies

and proactive support Maintain the safety of pupils and others at all times Record incidents accurately and contribute to reviews and planning Support pupils to understand emotions and develop coping strategies

Communication & Teamwork



Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, therapists, and other professionals Communicate effectively with parents/carers where appropriate Contribute to meetings, reviews, and planning Maintain clear and accurate records

Safeguarding & Professional Practice



Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies Maintain professional boundaries at all times Attend training and supervision as required Uphold confidentiality and data protection requirements

Personal SpecificationEssential



Experience working with

children or young people with autism and/or SEN

Understanding of

challenging behaviour as communication

Calm, patient, and resilient approach Ability to follow behaviour support and risk management plans Good communication and teamwork skills Willingness to support personal care Commitment to safeguarding and equality

Desirable



Experience working with

complex needs, PDA, ADHD, trauma, or learning disabilities

Knowledge of

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

or

low-arousal approaches

Experience using

visual supports or alternative communication

Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching and Learning, SEN training) Experience working in a

special school or specialist provision

Additional Information



This role may involve

physical intervention

in line with training and policy The post is subject to

enhanced DBS clearance

(e.g. PECS, symbols) Encourage engagement and participation in learning activities Support transitions between activities and environments

Pay: 27,000.00-44,411.83 per year
