This role will be to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a learner throughout the school day, ensuring their complex medical, physical, and learning needs are met safely and effectively. The role involves facilitating access to learning through highly personalised approaches, managing medical interventions, and supporting the learner's holistic development in line with their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
The successful candidate will:
Provide continuous individualised support to enable the learner's engagement in sensory and experiential learning activities.
Implement personalised learning programmes under the guidance of teaching staff.
Manage their medical interventions, including suctioning, oxygen administration, nebulisers, PEG feeding, and chest physiotherapy, in accordance with medical plans.
Monitor the learner's health and wellbeing throughout the day, responding immediately to signs of distress or clinical deterioration.
Support specialist moving and handling, including hoisting and positioning, alongside an additional adult as required.
Maintain accurate records of medical interventions, positioning schedules, and learning progress.
Adapt resources and activities to meet the learner's profound learning needs within the Engagement Model.
Liaise effectively with teachers, therapists, and healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated support.
Promote the learner's safety, dignity, and comfort at all times, including during personal care routines.
Facilitate their participation in school life, including trips and activities, ensuring all risk assessments and medical protocols are followed.
Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and contribute to a positive, inclusive environment.
Essential
NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification/experience.
GCSE English and Maths (Grade C or above).
Recent experience working with children with complex medical and physical needs.
Training or willingness to undertake training in suctioning, oxygen therapy, PEG feeding, and moving and handling.
Desirable
Previous experience supporting pupils within the Engagement Model.
Knowledge of assistive technology for communication and learning.
Understanding of sensory-based learning approaches.
