About our school




Somerset Progressive School prides itself on being very unique. Both sites are set in rural locations on the outskirts of Taunton. Each site offers an attractive and stimulating learning environment, combining specialised teaching facilities with local resources.


There is a high staff to pupil ratio with most receiving 1:1 tuition or working in small groups. Pupils are encouraged to work alongside others and co-operatively in pairs and small groups, as the development of social skills and independent work strategies are vital.

Overview of the role of Teaching Assistant:



Mentoring, supporting and inspiring learners by supporting them with curriculum-based learning in the classroom, on home tuition and outreach and through outdoor activities Assist with the preparation of learning material and contributing to the delivery of learning objectives with a strong focus on behavioural management Daily reports on learners' progress and barriers to learning Interaction with parents/care givers on a regular basis

Passionate champions of students with SEND At least two years' experience of working in a SEND environment Have strong English and Maths skills Would like the opportunity to support students outside of a mainstream environment Would like the opportunity to progress within the school and obtain career focused professional qualifications Actively contribute to school safeguarding and welfare procedures
