Position Overview

Location: London, Devon House (St Katharine Docks); Work from Home

Term: Part-Time, fixed term (0.5 FTE, 4 months), with potential renewal

The Role

Northeastern University London wishes to appoint two (2) teaching assistants in Computer Science. The successful candidate(s) will support course delivery by facilitating seminars and grading assessments. They will assist in the delivery of first year undergraduate courses; in particular, Fundamentals of Computer Science and Discrete Structures.

Core duties will include leading lab sessions for the above courses to UK and (predominantly) US student audiences studying Computer Science. The successful candidate(s) should have expertise in one or more of the following subjects:

  • Python programming
  • Kotlin programming
  • Algorithms & Complexity

The role is suitable for part-time working, provided the appointee can attend the campus (in central London) for face-to-face work as and when required.

Department

Computing, Mathematics, Engineering, and Natural Sciences is undergoing a major growth at Northeastern University London. It is home to four interdisciplinary undergraduate dual degree (in UK and US) programs in the areas of Data Science, Data Science and Politics, Computer Science and Business, and Computer Science and Philosophy; and four postgraduate programs in the areas of AI, Data Science, Software Engineering, and Digital Leadership.

Person Specification Criteria

Qualifications
  • MSc or equivalent professional experience in a relevant area
  • PhD completed, or near completion (all but thesis), in a relevant area (desirable)
  • Higher education teaching qualification (e.g., PGcert, PGCHE, FHEA) (desirable)
Key Criteria
  • Demonstrates, through evidence, excellent ability to be adaptable, innovative, and inclusive in the role as advertised with regards to teaching.
  • Flexibility and capacity to teach across a range of courses and delivery modes (face-to-face and remote sessions).
  • Willingness and capacity to undertake continuous professional development in relation to the use of technology, software, and data in relation to the subject area, and to teach on these matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills, both face-to-face and online.
  • Ability to engage and develop working relationships with faculty, learning designers and technologists, relevant employers and with counterparts across the Northeastern University global network.
