Bristol Medical School are seeking to appoint a Teaching Associate (maternity cover) in Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience (Grade I) until March 2026. The role focusses on the contribution to the delivery, development and assessment of physiology, pharmacology, neuroscience and histology teaching (and teaching-related activities) within the undergraduate BSc programmes in Physiological Science, Pharmacology and Neuroscience in addition to the basic science teaching delivered on the medical, dental, veterinary science programmes. The role holder will deliver teaching via a variety of methods including practical classes, tutorials and simulation sessions.
An important aspect of the job is to enthusiastically illustrate the concepts, relevance and application of physiology, pharmacology, neuroscience and histology to the study of medicine, dentistry, veterinary science and the biomedical sciences in general through drawing on the role holder's recent professional experience, either in research or clinical and preferably together with relevant teaching experience
What will you be doing?

You will carry out teaching to support our undergraduate degree programmes in Physiological Science, Pharmacology, Neuroscience and the professional health programmes. This will involve demonstrating in practical classes (including leading some classes), leading small group tutorials, supporting simulation teaching and supervising group projects. You will also include assessment of coursework and end of unit assessments. The role will involve contributing to the maintenance and delivery of online teaching materials via systems including Blackboard and eBiolabs and supporting student learning via sessions such as feedback cafes. There will also be opportunities to get involved in outreach and other education-related activities in the School.

You should have recent research experience (PhD or higher) together with a contribution to university teaching or recent clinical experience at a junior level with relevant educational experience.
A good knowledge of physiology/neuroscience/pharmacology/histology to second year undergraduate level is essential.
In addition, you should hold a teaching qualification (or equivalent documented experience of University teaching training) preferably related to higher education and an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline with a PhD (or close to completion) or a relevant clinical qualification (MBChB/MBBS/BDS/BVSc or equivalent).
