Role Purpose

The School of Computer Science at the University of Birmingham is one of the leading UK institutions for research and teaching in computer science. The research we conduct is ranked 3rd among UK universities, according to the latest Research Excellence Framework. The education we provide is ranked 7th in the UK for computer science, according to the Complete University Guide 2024. While pursuing excellence in research and education, we also aim to have a positive impact on society. Examples of our impact include collaborations with industry partners and charities, commercialisation activities and an extensive wider participation programme. To support its aims, the School offers a vibrant, open and intellectually stimulating work environment, centred around its dedicated computer science building.

The School seeks to recruit a Teaching Fellow to join us at this time to provide support to our large student cohorts across undergraduate and taught programmes who may need additional support due to disruptions to their Education, particularly caused by the pandemic. The post holder will need to work to provide support both in person and remotely. They will lead sessions, support module leaders with teaching and marking design and delivery and form an integral part of module teams.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equality. Nationally, Computer Science suffers a lack of diversity. Addressing this problem is a paramount concern and the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the School\'s diversity and equality agenda.

To teach and advise undergraduate, postgraduate taught and CPD students within the School of Computer Science. To take responsibility for a limited number of postgraduate level taught modules in the postholder\'s area of expertise. Where necessary, to support the development of new postgraduate level programmes in the area of Computer Science, and to support the existing undergraduate and postgraduate Computer Science programmes. The post holder will be expected to assist in teaching support activities supervised by members of staff with ultimate responsibility for the design, delivery and assessment of the teaching programme. To provide support for other modules, especially related to Java programming and to supervise project students.
