About the role

The Department of Life Sciences at Imperial College London seeks an enthusiastic individual with appropriate academic and educational experience to support a variety of teaching activities on our undergraduate teaching programmes. Join us and contribute to the University's Educational Mission.



We're looking for candidates who can contribute to one or more of the following academic areas:



Biological chemistry and metabolism, including structural biology.

Cell biology and molecular biology.

The design and running of team-based research projects for final year students.


What you would be doing


---------------------------


Holding a departmental position in teaching (e.g. module/course/year organiser), you will develop and deliver teaching, including lectures, workshops and academic tutorials. You'll design, organise and run laboratory classes, and will supervise undergraduate student projects, setting and assessing work using appropriate methods and criteria.



You will contribute to educational research, evaluation and critical enquiry activities, including the process of securing internal or external funding for teaching initiatives or scholarship, and engaging in scholarly activities related to the subject area you work in and higher education practice.



You will have potential for, and willingness to work towards, appropriate professional recognition and accreditation e.g. Fellow or Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and will be a reflective, responsive practitioner committed to personal and professional development.


What we are looking for

A degree (or equivalent) and a PhD (or equivalent) in a Life Sciences or related discipline; To have, (Senior Teaching Fellow level) or be working towards (Teaching Fellow level), an appropriate teaching qualification in Higher Education, and/or have an equivalent level of experience in a formal teaching environment; Experience in teaching and assessing biochemistry, molecular biology or related areas in a University environment, along with the associated administrative and management support work; Understanding of relevant educational theory and good practice relating to student learning, teaching, assessment and course design in a relevant discipline in Higher Education; Excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills, with the ability to work under pressure; Familiarity with a variety of student-centred strategies to promote and assess teaching, and to provide constructive feedback; Interest and understanding in teaching and learning innovation such as technology-enhanced learning, active learning, collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches to research-led teaching.

Teaching Fellow salary range: 54,063 - 61,208 per annum Senior Teaching Fellow salary range: 63,797- 75,365 per annum

The Department of Life Sciences has an international reputation for its teaching and research. We employ over 80 academic staff, have ~150 PhD students, ~300 Masters Students and over 1000 Undergraduate students across two-degree streams in Biological Sciences and Biochemistry/ Biotechnology. The Department is located on two campuses at South Kensington and Silwood Park, with the majority of undergraduate teaching taking place in South Kensington.
