About the role

The Department of Bioengineering is seeking a Teaching Fellow, at either a Teaching Fellow or a Senior Teaching Fellow level, to join our Teaching and Learning family. The post will be committed to the teaching and learning activities of the Department and contribute to its long-term educational mission. It offers an opportunity to support and shape excellent students in their learning, engage in curriculum innovation and development, and collaborate with colleagues in an inclusive and supportive environment within a top-tier, international institution.



If successful, you will be part of our Learning & Teaching Team, working closely with other Teaching Fellows and Academics to help us offer an outstanding learning experience for our students, preparing them for their future careers in engineering. You be expected to develop your own lecture materials based on current resources, and teach it in a variety of ways including lectures, tutorials and coursework assessments. You will write and mark your own examinations and will have a core role in student recruitment and admissions, and develop and deliver outreach activities.



The Department of Bioengineering has an outstanding international reputation for teaching. It offers 3 undergraduate programmes, 3 MSc programmes, and 7 MRes programmes, representing the strength and breadth of activity and expertise available within the Department. Appointment as Teaching Fellow or Senior Teaching Fellow will be determined by the hiring panel.


What you would be doing

Your key responsibilities will include developing and delivering educational content, tutoring, and mentoring students, contributing to collaborative teaching practices, and managing student progress and module information within virtual learning environments (VLEs).



You will support the revision or improvement of current modules and programmes and proactively address issues in line with strategic priorities. You will also contribute to the planning, design and development of the curriculum.



You will supervise students (UG and PG) individual and group projects, and be responsible for the pastoral care of students within a specified area

What we are looking for

To be successful, you will have:


An honours degree in a relevant subject area is essential. A postgraduate qualification or equivalent in biomedical engineering or relevant topic is essential. You must have a recognised teaching qualification. Ability to teach effectively at undergraduate and masters level is desirable. Teaching experience in, or a clear understanding of, UK universities and their admissions processes is desirable.
