Join our vibrant and supportive team of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists at Ashford and St Peter's NHS Foundation Trust. We're looking for a passionate Band 7 Team Lead Occupational Therapist to manage a small, dynamic team and drive service development within our Cardiorespiratory, Critical Care, and Surgical wards.

As Team Lead, you will oversee the day-to-day operational management of Occupational Therapy services across Cardiorespiratory, Critical Care, and Surgery, providing clinical leadership and supervision to a dedicated Respiratory OT team. You will work autonomously with complex patients, leading advanced assessments and care planning within a multi-disciplinary team. You'll also be a clinical expert resource to inpatient teams and actively contribute to service development, quality improvement, research, and audit initiatives.

Main duties of the job

Be responsible for the day-to-day operational delivery of Occupational Therapy services in critical care, cardiorespiratory and surgical wards. Manage and support the Respiratory Occupational Therapy team, providing clinical supervision and line management (2 x Band 6, 2 x Band 5, 1 x Band 4). Take a leading role in the advanced assessment and management of patients with complex and multi-pathology presentations including critical illness, post-operative problems and long term respiratory conditions. Collaborate with the MDT to determine optimal care pathways. Lead service development aligned with national and local strategies. Participate in quality improvement projects, audits, and research activities. You will be expected to support the Trust's move towards 7-day working by contributing to OT service provision on extended hours, weekends, and bank holidays.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential criteria

HCPC registration in Occupational Therapy Experience as a senior OT in surgery/cardiorespiratory/neuro Manage and be accountable for own and team workload prioritisation Experience in supervising staff
Desirable criteria

Postgraduate training Leadership/management courses Special-interest group ICU experience as an Occupational Therapist

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Strong understanding in role of OT in ICU Evidence of involvement in audits/PDSA/service or quality improvement Awareness of relevant national and clinical guidelines Specialty-specific OT interventions (cardioresp, surgical, critical care)
Desirable criteria

Awareness of Trust vision, values and strategic objectives

Essential criteria

Advanced clinical reasoning skills that guide interventions (i.e. rehab, risk assessments, discharge planning, management of complex cases) Good understanding of their communication, physical & emotional needs; can identify their individual needs and preferences, their changing needs and recognise and promote their independence. Teaching to staff, MDT, patients, carers Effective communication skills with MDT and service users Use of evidence-based practice
