We have an amazing opportunity for

a team leader

to join our caring and support team at

Norton Court House

, our specialist longer-term service for children and young people with a diagnosed Learning Disability and who display challenging behaviour as a result. We offer intensive levels of support and care to help the young people we care for develop social and life skills.


We encourage our young people to attend school or college during their stay with us, wherever possible, and to join us on fun day trips out to theme parks, the seaside or wherever their interests lie!


You will have an opportunity to learn whilst you work with Active Care Group. After probation you will be working towards

Level 4 Diploma

in Residential child care.

What you'll be doing:



The primary focus of this role is to:





Keep children and young people safe at all times. Acknowledge their role in safeguarding children. Carry out informative shift handovers. Deal with any concerns in relation to children and young people. Ensure appropriate equipment and supplies are provided to staff when they leave the building with children (emergency medication for example). Allocate jobs/tasks to staff, checking the standard of work completed. Writing and updating of risk assessments, support plans, health plans within agreed time scales. Writing review reports or other documents needed to evidence care and progression of the child / young person. Liaising with all professionals involved. Planning for outings, appointments in good time. Ensure that children and young people are treated with dignity, privacy and respect. Provide personal care needs to children and young people in line with their agreed plan. Carry out delegated clinical tasks in line with training. Assist in the smooth day-to-day running of the home- deputising for management in their absence this will include ensuring adequate cover o rotas for example. Engage in all mandatory training. Liaise, with those people important to the children and young people Maintain accurate, legible records of care provided based upon the care plan incorporating all relevant communication and liaison. Comply with organisational health and safety requirements. Adhere to national guidance and best practice on infection control. Participate in the services activity programmes. Encourage and promote socially acceptable standards of behaviour. Attend working shifts as a companion for children / young people having in-stay hospital visits. Attend and contribute to regular staff team meetings. Liaise with GP / pharmacy etc to organise continuous supply of medication and medical equipment. Ensure that there is adequate staff cover on all shifts. Contribute towards MDT meetings. Provide staff with regular (monthly), minuted supervision and regular performance review. Nightly audit of all medication stock to be carried out on night shift. Carry out a security check of the building during night shift.

What you'll have:



A genuine interest in providing the best person centre care possible for our young people Level 3 diploma in children and young people's workforce At least 2 years experience working with children and young people in a residential setting. Ability to keep with the physical aspect of the role. i.e. responding to children and young people in crisis and accompanying/engaging in physical outings/activities with the children and young people. Experience of working with computers i.e. Microsoft office. Experience of writing care plans and risk assessments. Good communication skills. Good safeguarding knowledge. Ability to work well in a team. Desirable: Experience working with children and young people with learning disabilities. Experience of supervising staff/people management skills. Experience of working with an MDT approach. Experience of attending meetings and advocating for children and young people.
