Swansea Council is seeking a dedicated and motivated Team Manager (qualified Social Worker) to lead our Community Learning Disabilities Team. This is a non case holding managerial role, focused on driving the team's performance and service quality rather than holding a caseload.
About the Role
Provide effective leadership and management to a team of social workers and allied professionals within the Community Learning Disabilities Team.
Supervise staff, providing professional support and guidance
Oversee and quality assure the delivery of assessments, reviews, and person-centred care planning by team members.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation in practice and service delivery.
Work collaboratively with health colleagues and partners in a multi-disciplinary environment to ensure the best outcomes for adults with learning disabilities.
Ensure the team enables people with learning disabilities to achieve greater independence and personal outcomes.
Champion social inclusion, safeguarding, and support for families and carers at a service level.
Fulfil statutory responsibilities under the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 and related legislation, ensuring team compliance and best practice.
Lead on service development, contribute to strategic planning, and represent the team at management forums and partnership meetings.
About You
Essential:
Professional qualification in Social Work and registration with the Care Council for Wales.
Substantial experience in adult social care, ideally within learning disabilities services, including supervisory or management responsibilities.
Excellent leadership, supervision, and team development skills.
Proven ability to oversee complex assessments, care planning, and multi-disciplinary working.
Strong commitment to equal opportunities, quality assurance, and continuous professional development.
Competence in applying relevant legislation (e.g., SSWBA 2014, NHS & Community Care Act 1990, Mental Health Act 1983) to team practice and service delivery.
Ability to use IT systems for performance monitoring, case recording, and data input.
Desirable:
Post-qualifying award in Social Work, Practice Teachers Award, or a management qualification.
In-depth knowledge of benefits systems and experience of working with adults with a diverse range of disabilities.
Experience in service development and leading change.
