Our team includes Qualified Teachers of the Deaf (QToD) and Sensory Support Assistant posts including our BSL Instructor and Bilingual Family Development Worker. We are part of the wider Learning Advisory Service and we work in close partnership with other specialist teams in the borough and with our partners in the health service. As a team we provide advice and support for deaf and partially hearing babies, children and young people, aged 0 - 25, to promote their inclusion, overall progress and the raising of attainment.
The Role
============
We have new post vacancy for a Team Leader available from January 2026. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Teacher of the Deaf, ideally with previous line management skills, who is familiar with working in an advisory capacity within a diverse, multi-cultural environment.
As a Team Leader, you will:
Line manage staff in the deaf and partially hearing advisory teacher team, including the work of the linked sensory support assistants
Promote the appropriate educational and social inclusion of children and young people (CYP) who are deaf or partially hearing across the 0-25 age range, in a variety of educational settings and in family homes, focusing on improving outcomes and raising attainment.
Ensure that work delivered is compliant with relevant legislation and national quality standards and is in accord with local inclusion and equality policies and strategies.
Assist the SEND Inclusion Advisor and work alongside the Team Leader for Visual Impairment to advise the LA on strategic policy and practice in relation to the needs of CYP with a sensory loss.
Maintain and further develop the close joint working with other specialist teams in the borough and with the wide range of different partners in the Health Service.
Manage the timely allocation of new referrals and maintain caseload and service level performance data.

Salary: Main scale / UPS + TLR 1A + SEN 2 (for those holding the mandatory QToD qualification).
Potential Earnings: For a UPS 3 teacher working full-time, the equivalent salary could be up to 75,159 per annum.
Travel: A travel allowance, or essential car user allowance, is available to support the peripatetic nature of the work

Be an exceptional communicator and an experienced practitioner with some prior experience of line management.
Have experience working with deaf and partially hearing CYP across different age groups.
Have a wider knowledge of special educational needs (SEN) and a strong commitment to inclusive education.
Be a well-organised, proactive leader who is and able to work effectively alongside other professional groups and in partnership with parents.
