Salary: 36, 240

Hours: 160 waking hours per month and 10 sleep in shifts

Shift Pattern: 2 on 4 off

Main Purpose of the job

To assist the manager in achieving the aims and objectives of the statement of purpose.

To support and manage the staff to enable them to meet the needs of the children and young people. To undertake direct work with children as appropriate.

To work in partnership with other professionals to achieve optimum outcomes for young people.

To offer supervision and support to support workers in line with national minimum standards.

To provide advice, assistance and support children, safeguarding their welfare at all times.

To attend to their practical, physical and emotional needs.

To act as an appropriate role mode and to work closely with them to enable them to address their difficulties and achieve their optimum potential.

Supporting the Needs and care for of Children and Young People

Ensuring that each member of staff is aware of each child's placement plan and their responsibilities for its implementation

Attending child care reviews and planning meetings to provide information and achieve best outcomes for young people

Undertaking direct work with young people and acting as an appropriate role model

Maintaining accurate records in logs, continuation logs and files both to record information and enable regular monitoring and evaluation to take place

Working in partnership with parents, carers and other professionals to safeguard and promote the welfare of young people

Chairing children's meetings and facilitating consultation with young people generally

Acting as an appropriate adult at PACE meetings

Establishing positive relationships with young people and always offering them unconditional and positive regard

Meeting the physical, emotional, behavioural, cultural and educational needs of the young people

Acting as a role model and demonstrating appropriate pro-social ways of dealing with problems

Helping young people gain self control by challenging unacceptable behaviour and rewarding acceptable, pro-social conduct.

Ensuring that each young person's care plan is followed and amended as appropriate to reflect their changing needs, including risks.

Developing in consultation with young people and staff routines in relation to all aspects of child care

Maintaining the home in a clean and orderly condition

Leading the Staff Team

Leading shifts to ensure the effective day to day running of the home

Providing team leadership and direction in relation to staff duties and responsibilities

Assist with onboarding and retention of staff including induction training for new staff into the home

Supervisions of new starters during their probationary period

Develop a team leader style which balances leadership and direction whilst providing staff the opportunity for decision making

Taking responsibility for planning shifts and ensuring their smooth running when on duty

Providing consultation and informal advice and support to staff in relation to day to day matters

Offering 1-1 supervisions to staff in line with national minimum standards

Identifying and progressing individual training and development needs of staff in the context of their personnel development plans

Addressing issues in relation to conduct and competence staff

Contributing to staff team meetings to facilitate good communication and staff development

Ensuring staff work within the home's policies, procedures and national minimum standards requirements.

To drive company vehicles- subject to policies and procedures

To work on a rota basis according to the needs of the young people

To ensure that resources are allocated appropriately and financial records are accurately maintained

To receive supervision in line with national minimum standards and to take responsibility to personal development and progress of individual training needs

To carry out all other reasonable tasks or directed by the deputy manager/registered manager

Being aware of childcare plans for all the young people and providing support for colleagues by maintaining consistency in the execution of those plans

Providing informal practical and emotional support to colleagues experiencing difficulties

Attending and contributing to regular supervision sessions

Monitoring the conduct of colleagues and referring on any causes for concern (whistleblowing)

Adhering to the homes Policies and Procedures

General Duties

Attending young peoples meetings and contributing to them

Driving company vehicles ( current clean driving licence holders subject to procedures)

Receiving training appropriate to role and maintaining an up to date training file

Working towards Diploma level 4 in Children's Residential Care.

Responsibility for the accurate maintenance of financial records appropriate to the duties of the post

Responsibility for the health, safety, welfare of self and colleagues in accordance with the requirements of the companies health and safety policy and adhering to them.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Previous experience in childcare or a similar role is essential Essential Level 4 Diploma within children and young people residential care Strong IT skills for maintaining records and communicating effectively with team members. Excellent communication skills to engage with children and their families effectively. A valid driving licence is advantageous for transportation purposes when required. Understanding of care plans and the ability to implement them effectively. A compassionate approach with a genuine interest in supporting children's growth and development Current clean driving licence

Experience

1 years relevant supervisory experience

18 months experience of working in a residential setting with young people challenging behaviour

Candidates must be suitable to work with children and young people within a care setting (subject to pre-employment checks).
