About the role (External)
What does a Track Technician do?
As a Team Leader Track Maintenance, you will direct, organise and motivate a high performing team of Operatives and Technicians. From inspection and faulting through to maintenance and renewal, you'll play a hands-on role in ensuring our rails, railway ties (sleepers), fasteners, railway switches, ballast and foundations are in tip top condition to keep passengers and freight moving safely and without interruption.
You'll make sure everything is done efficiently and to the highest standards. Safety will be a priority. You'll establish appropriate safety arrangements and make sure Network Rail staff and contractors alike follow safe systems of work. Proactively controlling and checking the quality of work and the competence of your people, you'll see to it that assets are fully compliant and all vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials are fit for purpose. Along the way, you'll compile a range of vital reports.
Our Team Leaders work outside in all conditions, at all times of the year, day or night. You could be involved in demanding manual work, often with the need to transport kit, across tricky terrain. Being safety focused, respectful of rules and a team player will be critical as you'll often be working next to moving trains travelling at highspeed.

xc2xb7 Experience of arranging and implementing safe systems of work.
xc2xb7 Experience of organising and controlling the safe and efficient delivery of work.
xc2xb7 Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team.
xc2xb7 Able to lead, motivate and direct a team.
xc2xb7 Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
xc2xb7 Knowledge and experience of permanent way inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques.
xc2xb7 Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures and instructions.
xc2xb7 Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post, required by business need.
xc2xb7 Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained the appropriate level of knowledge gained through equivalent relevant experience
xc2xb7 Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.
