Post No. STS0087 - Team Manager - Countryside & Conservation



In Environmental and Leisure Services, the team are engaged in the direct maintenance and management of the authorities& environmental assets and Green Infrastructure including parks, cemeteries, public open spaces, public rights of way and countryside sites. The team are also responsible for the governance, protection, project management and enhancement of the green infrastructure and overarching environmental policy linked to environmental infrastructure. Team managers cover grounds maintenance, green infrastructure in the urban and countryside areas and as part of City Services have a key role in the development of sustainable transportation and the development of leisure opportunities within the City and County.



Our focus is to further improve performance and find efficiencies by recruiting a Countryside and Conservation Team Manager to oversee all aspects of the Countryside and Conservation Team.



About the job



As the Countryside and Conservation Team Manager you will lead and work with other Environment and Leisure teams on managing and developing the strategic and operational functions within urban and rural green infrastructure. This will include overseeing a multidisciplinary team covering statutory and operational duties, planning consultations, policy development, health and safety, income generation, funding opportunities, budget management, performance and communication.





You would be directly responsible for managing some of the City&s most significant green infrastructure including public open spaces, Local Nature Reserves, Public Rights of Way, environmentally protected sites and city trees and woodlands. You will also contribute to the implementation of environmental improvement strategies, policy direction, landscape improvement, environmental education projects, volunteer groups and other key initiatives such as reviewing the operational services and processes on an ongoing basis and making recommendations for improvement or development.



You will report directly to the Environmental and Leisure Service Manager, will work and liaise closely with the Grounds Maintenance Team Manager, Parks and Recreation Team Manager and Bereavement Manager within the Service Area. Within wider service provision there will be an expectation to work closely with other team managers, Councillors, Cabinet Members and a range of contractors, external organisations and public stakeholders to deliver and develop an excellent range of services for residents and businesses across the City.



About the person



Enthusiastic and confident, you should have a degree standard qualification or equivalent and have the ability to lead and motivate a diverse workforce. You should have experience managing strategic projects, operational services and personnel, high value contracts and have proven success of leading service delivery improvements.



You are open-minded and business focused, with an organised and analytical approach to your work $u and you are used to maintaining attention to detail while working to tight deadlines. You are self-motivated and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and appreciate the importance of customer care. You have strong financial management skills and a creative approach to problem solving with excellent IT and data analysis/management skills.
