About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for the position of Electrical or Mechanical Technical Advice Group (TAG) Engineer within the Maintenance Department's Technical Advice Group at Torness Power Station in Dunbar.


In this role, you'll deliver engineered solutions for urgent issues, ensuring compliance with HSE and Site Licence standards. Using operational experience and our Station's Corrective Action Programme, you'll specify and approve safe systems of work, plan resources, and guide defect repairs.


You'll enhance maintenance instructions and check sheets to improve team performance, aligning with standards and expectations. As the first point of contact for technical issues, you'll conduct risk assessments and act as Field Supervisor for technical contracts.



Who You Are





As a minimum, you'll have an HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent). A background in heavy industry is essential. A background in maintenance at a power station is desirable with good practical & technical experience.

Mechanical expertise could include:



Pumps, fans, motors: troubleshooting, alignment, balancing, condition monitoring. Valves: overhaul, safety actuators, sealing systems, torque requirements. Pressure systems: boilers, heat exchangers, pipework integrity, statutory inspections. Hydraulic & pneumatic systems: maintenance, fault-finding, pressure testing. Diesel generators: emergency power systems, fuel/cooling arrangements, load testing. On-load leak sealing: techniques for pressurised systems, nuclear safety compliance. Condition monitoring: oil sampling, thermography, vibration analysis, root cause analysis. Technical documentation and regulatory compliance in nuclear environments.

Electrical expertise could include:



HV systems: 11kV/3.3kV switchgear, transformers, protection schemes. LV distribution: control circuits, protection devices. Battery backup & UPS systems: maintenance, testing, inverter technology. Switchgear & protection: circuit breakers, relay testing, fault analysis. Valve actuators: Rotork, Hopkinsons, AUMA--control logic, torque settings, diagnostics. Transformers: condition monitoring, oil sampling, insulation testing. VSD/VFC systems: installation, troubleshooting, integration with control systems. Motor control circuits: interlocks, safety systems, condition monitoring. Technical documentation and compliance with nuclear safety standards.

A basic understanding of the operation of an Advanced Gas Reactor (AGR) Power Station is beneficial, however, extensive training will be given.



Pay, Benefits and Culture





The salary range associated with this role is between

45,641 - 95,993

; however the starting salary will be within the range of

45,641 - 81,263

, allowing room for career advancement. This is a full-time, site-based position.
