In this role, you'll act as a key engineering and leadership presence across a number of feature teams - uplifting capability, strengthening technical practices, and ensuring consistent, high quality outcomes across a complex application landscape.


This role is critical in ensuring that our systems are developed, integrated and maintained in line with excellent engineering standards. You'll coach and uplift leadership populations, contribute to end to end change initiatives, and help mature our engineering ecosystem -- including API uplift, skills development, vendor management, and cross team technical alignment.



What

you'll

do



Lead and mentor a

multi

skilled group of engineers

across multiple feature teams, ensuring consistent standards, capability uplift and strong technical outcomes. Recruit, coach and develop leaders within the engineering population,

raising capability and building a

high

performing

culture.

Represent the specialist function in high level meetings and

influence

decision

making

across a broad, multi team landscape. Own and contribute to

end

to

end

change initiatives

, ensuring alignment across multiple applications and feature teams. Drive uplift across the wider bank ecosystem - including API standards, engineering skills, backlog quality and platform maturity. Oversee vendor management, ensuring suppliers provide the right skills, leadership and delivery capability to meet bank objectives . Collaborate closely with feature teams and third parties to identify and implement creative solutions that align with business needs. Provide technical leadership to architects and developers, including hands on guidance and problem solving where required . Monitor and report on progress across multiple engineering teams, addressing risks and issues promptly to ensure reliable delivery. Develop and embed processes that improve engineering efficiency, service quality and observability. Support continuous improvement initiatives, fostering a culture of learning and shared outcomes. Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of service infrastructure, ensuring stability, performance and sustainability. Ensure all engineering activities comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements and internal governance.

What

you'll

need



Deep expertise across the software engineering lifecycle, ensuring high standards in design, development, testing and deployment. Demonstrable experience operating across

multiple feature teams

in a leadership or technical stewardship role. Strong capability in

operational optimisation

- including automation, observability, monitoring and systems health management. Experience in incident resolution and root cause analysis across complex, multi application environments. Proven technology leadership skills, able to define and maintain engineering standards while aligning solutions to architecture and business objectives . Experience delivering complex technical change across multi team and multi platform environments. Experience of DevOps pipeline optimisation and modern CI/CD practices. Familiarity with automated testing, process automation and quality engineering principles. Significant experience in Agile delivery environments.
