We are building a technology company with a single mission:
making the transportation industry safer using advanced AI
.
We are seeking an experienced
Technical Architect / AI Systems Lead
to own and shape the technical foundation of the company from day one. This is a founding-level role with real authority, real responsibility, and meaningful equity upside.
You will define the end-to-end system architecture, validate AI feasibility, and ensure that all technical decisions meet uncompromising standards for
safety, robustness, and scalability
.
This is not a support role or a delivery-only position. You will directly influence whether the system is trustworthy at all.
Why This Role Is Critical
Without a technically credible architecture and AI strategy, everything downstream is noise.
This role exists to:
Prevent architectural debt that compromises long-term scalability
Eliminate false confidence in unsafe or unverifiable AI systems
Ensure early technical decisions survive real-world deployment
You will define the
technical spine
of the company.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
Owning the
end-to-end technical architecture
, from data ingestion through AI processing to downstream services
Defining and defending
AI system feasibility
, including what is safe, provable, and worth building
Making
high-impact technical trade-offs early
, often under uncertainty
Establishing and enforcing non-negotiable standards for:
System safety
Performance and reliability
Scalability and maintainability
Designing systems that are
auditable, testable, and interpretable
Identifying and mitigating failure modes before they reach production
Challenging assumptions -- including those of the founder -- when evidence requires it
Setting the technical culture and quality bar for all future hires
AI & System Integrity Responsibilities
Own AI lifecycle decisions from validation through deployment
Define acceptable error thresholds and system risk tolerances
Ensure AI models and outputs are interpretable, testable, and defensible
Prevent deployment of AI systems that cannot be confidently trusted
Anticipate and manage model drift, edge cases, and false positives
Safety takes precedence over speed.
RequirementsExperience & Seniority
Proven experience operating as a
Technical Lead, Principal Engineer, or Architect
Demonstrated ownership of
end-to-end system design
, not just feature delivery
Track record of making and standing behind
high-impact architectural decisions
Systems & Architecture
Strong understanding of
distributed systems
, scalability, reliability, and fault tolerance
Ability to design systems that are
(e.g. Python, Java, C#, or equivalent)
Working knowledge of modern
service-oriented and frontend architectures
Focus on engineering judgment rather than exhaustive language lists
Cloud & Infrastructure
Hands-on experience designing and operating
cloud-based systems
(AWS or equivalent)
Practical knowledge of
containerisation and orchestration
(Docker, Kubernetes)
Experience using core cloud primitives such as compute, object storage, and networking
Data & Persistence
Experience working with
relational and NoSQL databases
Understanding of data modelling, integrity, and lifecycle management
Awareness of performance, consistency, and scalability trade-offs
APIs & Integration
Experience designing and implementing
API-driven systems
(RESTful services)
Understanding of service boundaries, contracts, and integration failure modes
DevOps & Delivery Discipline
Strong understanding of
SDLC best practices
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation
Ability to design systems that are observable, maintainable, and recoverable
AI & Technical Judgment
Experience working with or alongside
applied AI / ML systems in production
Ability to assess AI feasibility, limitations, and risk
Understanding of interpretability, validation, and failure modes in AI-driven systems
Leadership & Problem Solving
Ability to lead through
technical authority
, not hierarchy
Excellent problem-solving skills under ambiguity and time pressure
Willingness to challenge assumptions and make difficult decisions
Character & Operating Standards (Non-Negotiable)
We assume technical competence. We assess character.
You must demonstrate:
Extreme ownership
over outcomes
Intellectual honesty under scrutiny
Calm, disciplined decision-making under technical uncertainty
Willingness to say "no" when systems are not safe
Comfort being accountable for long-term consequences
Immediate Disqualifiers
This role is not suitable for candidates who:
Overpromise AI capability
Optimise novelty over robustness
Require titles or validation to operate
Treat AI systems as opaque black boxes
Avoid accountability for architectural debt or safety risk
This is not a learning role.
This is not a stepping stone.
Equity & Commitment
Eligible for
4% equity
, earned and vested over time
Equity is performance- and trust-based
If early MVP initiatives reach even
25% of projected targets
, that equity stake is projected to be worth
approximately 120,000 per month
Designed for candidates seeking
ownership and long-term impact
, not short-term security
Vetting Process
Most applicants will not pass.
The process includes:
Signal-based screening (not CV-led)
A practical technical and architectural challenge
A founder-level interview focused on judgment and ethics
Final decision gate based on trust to make irreversible decisions affecting safety
Final Note
This role is deliberately demanding.
It will expose weaknesses quickly.
It rewards people who want responsibility, not reassurance.
Apply with evidence of systems you have owned and decisions you have stood behind.
