Role: Technical Architect

Duration: 6 Months (extension options)

Rate: \xc2\xa3650 per day (Inside IR35, via Umbrella)

Location: Warwick (Hybrid) 2 days a week in Office

My client is the electricity system operator for Great Britain, making sure that Great Britain has the essential energy it needs by ensuring supply meets demand every second of every day. They are currently in the process of several key Divestitures and Acquisitions (D&A) requiring a significant amount of change across the business, operating model and technology and therefore require a Technical Architect.

Job role:

The Digital Platforms and Infrastructure Technology (DPIT) function has a specialised team withing the wider Divestitures and Acquisitions (D&A) programme that focusses on a wide scope of Platforms and Services that provide the key enabling and supporting services which support the wider objectives and outcomes of the Divestitures and Acquisitions leadership and National Grid Group. This role is to support the programme and Chief Technology Strategist as part of the Divestitures and Acquisitions IT team with the delivery of necessary outcomes which will include ensure technical governance via activities such as options assessments, high level and low-level designs and supporting necessary changes to systems where needed.

This is not a solutions architecture role, but a technical role within the organisation that helps to support the Divestiture related outcomes.

This role requires a can-do attitude with the ability to cope within a very dynamic environment. Some level of hands-on implementation is to be expected due to this being a small team, but the expectation is that resulting delivery of any Architecture or technical recommendations and decisions will mainly be managed through Partners or Operational Deliver teams.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Delivery of Infrastructure related Architectural Artefacts and to work with the various Design Assurance boards.
  • To be accountable to the Chief Technology Strategist for Architectural Deliverables which will enable the delivery and implementation for the divesting company.
  • Ownership of relevant decisions, designs and patterns related to the divestiture.
  • To be able to triage, peer review, comment and provide recommendations on any designs or request received by the Divesting Company.
  • Work closely with Operational teams and other stakeholders including Project and Programme teams to ensure a clear and concise understanding of any options, recommendations, decisions and designs produced.
  • Assist in relevant change approvals, reviews and Service requests required to achieve the necessary outcomes.
  • Driving forward decisions, recommendations via consensus via stakeholder engagement meetings and building excellent working relationships to achieve.
Knowledge, Experience and Technical Know How
  • Excellent documentation and attention to detail required for designs and changes required.
  • Excellent knowledge on foundational IT infrastructure including servers, networks, DNS, routing, firewall etc.
  • Excellent understanding of identity including Active Directory, Azure Active Directory and related security services such as conditional access.
  • Excellent (breadth and depth) understanding and knowledge of M365 (Windows, Office, Security).
  • Good understanding of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, preferably including VMWare and Microsoft native VDI.
  • Good level of experience of Enterprise Joiners Movers Leavers processes and services
  • Good working knowledge of commercial licensing including Azure, M365 and other major products.
  • Ability to be able to write clear and concise technical documentation for all levels including summary options, conceptual architectures (where needed) designs and necessary changes.
  • Be able to document current and to-be architectures and changes clearly to be able to be re-used for future Divestitures and Acquisitions via a Playbook.
  • Be able to understand the end-to-end solution outcomes required beyond specific technical deliverables including service impact, financials and Enterprise-wide impact.
Essential
  • At least 6-8 years\' experience in a technical role covering infrastructure, identity, end user computing, networking and Cloud.
  • Divestiture experience.
  • Certifications in relevant technologies / vendors.
  • Experience working in a large Enterprise with complex processes.
  • Experience working in a large Enterprise with multiple Partners.
