Cumberland Council is seeking a motivated and detail?focused
Technical Assistant
to support the effective planning, estimating and financial management of highway works. This is an excellent opportunity to develop technical and analytical skills within a busy Highways and Transport team delivering essential services for our communities.
You will play a key role in supporting the Highways Network Manager to ensure all in?house and externally delivered works are accurately programmed, costed and monitored, contributing to high?quality, value?for?money service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will:
Support the Highways Network Engineer in preparing accurate cost estimates for a wide range of highway works.
Regularly monitor activity levels and unit rates within financial and works?ordering systems to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Produce clear and detailed performance reports comparing actual costs against estimates.
Review and validate apportioned costs by interrogating works?ordering and financial systems.
Monitor the performance of framework contractors, including reviewing invoices and associated documentation.
Manage low? to medium?value procurement exercises in line with Council standing orders and procurement procedures.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
Has strong analytical skills with the ability to work confidently with financial and operational data.
Has good attention to detail and a methodical approach to reviewing costs and producing reports.
Understands cost estimation and cost management processes (experience in highways or construction is desirable but not essential).
Can communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders.
Is organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities.
