About the role




Owing to continued success and planned growth aspirations, CDS Defence & Security is looking to employ a Technical Author to join the Technical Publications Team. Working under the direction of the Technical Publications Manager and Senior Technical Authors, the candidate will produce high-quality technical publications for a wide variety of equipment to a varied customer base.

Responsibilities





You will become the primary focal point for the following:

Be responsible for the production of Technical Documentation, both military and commercial. Provide accurate and concise progress reports on request. Work within budget and to a pre-defined delivery schedule. Communicate with engineers and SME's, developing knowledge to create technical documentation. Collect, analyse and organise project source information. Engage with Customers to ensure expectations are met. Keep up to date with prevailing documentation standards and practices. Adhere to internal processes and procedures. May be expected to work on Customer premises, if required.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience



The successful candidate will have the following skills, qualifications, and experience:

Work effectively in a team. Be able to communicate technical information to nontechnical audiences. Excellent planning and organisation skills. Strong attention to detail with a diligent approach to projects. Understanding of a variety of Technical Documentation disciplines. Have an inquisitive nature and be keen to learn new technologies.
You will also have:



Recognised technical qualification, preferably in Engineering or equivalent experience. Experience and knowledge of structured authoring disciplines and relevant software. Proficient at using MS Office, including Project and Visio. Experience and knowledge using MS Word Templates and formatting of MS Word documents. Experience of CAD manipulation for the development of technical illustrations and knowledge transfer. Working iaw predefined specifications and style guides. Knowledge and experience of the S-Series specifications, including S1000D and S2000M. Knowledge and experience of Army Equipment Support Publications (AESPs), Air Publications (APs), Books of Reference (BRs). Qualification or experience with ASD Simplified Technical English (STE) is desirable. Engineering / Military background or understanding is preferable. Knowledge of illustration software and techniques. Must obtain and hold a Security Clearance (SC) and be willing to hold Developed Vetting (DV).
