Position Purpose
To develop, maintain and support technical information products that span the many different environments that TAIT provides for customers.
The role will be dedicated to the development, maintenance and support of technical information products. The right candidate will originate, revise and/or support information products that span the many different environments that TAIT provides for. As a technical author, you will establish an understanding of the product or applications and then design and write documentation to explain it to users. This specific role is integral to producing a consistent voice and brand across all documentation whilst also ensuring that every level and type of employee or consumer can understand and utilise the informational products we provide.
Expectations & Responsibilities:
Researching, verifying and gathering information required - both internal and external.
Attending planning and briefing meetings.
Collaboration with developers, colleagues and managers to interpret and translate technical information into a user-friendly format.
Liaising with colleagues to benefit from the vast span of knowledge we have within our departments and using this to enhance the content of the documentation.
Working with the marketing department to clarify on branding, abiding by branding guidelines and working with printer/service providers to create a high-quality product.
Working with translators when required to ensure every employee or customer base has the relevant technical information they require.
Using/experimenting with the product or system in question to get an in-depth understanding of the technology and the documentation which needs to be prepared.
Gather and analyse the information needs of the users in question and organise information according to their needs.
Commission, coordinate and prepare illustrations.
Working on multiple projects simultaneously and have good time management of own diary.
Creating efficient work schedules dependent on the job in question, working to deadlines.
Keeping up to date with developments within the industry and adapting documentation to any relevant changes or advances.
Creation of clear, concise, visually attractive and easy to understand material.
Producing indexes and catalogues.
Proofreading documentation before submission.
Foundation/Position Requirements: Skills, experience, certifications
Good all-round general education.
Advanced user of "Flare" or equivalent technical writing software such as "Oxygen".
The ability to convert AutoCAD drawings into scalable and compatible illustrations.
Proven publishing track record
Knowledge of technical writing terminology and procedure.
Computer literate - confident in Microsoft Office package.
Right to work in the UK.
Technical knowledge of Automation/Mechatronics
Familiarity with electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
Technical writer/author experience in the Automation or Engineering industry (Desirable)
Accustomed to producing technical information from brief through to publish.
