Exciting challenges lie ahead - new digital technologies and alternative ways of working are transforming the way we protect our communities and bring people to justice. We design products and deliver services that help our officers to combat crime, protect the vulnerable and enable safer communities, making a difference that matters.
Data is pivotal to achieving the above and driving organisational change. The ability to consume data from a greater variety of sources at a more granular level can help identify new insights while the linking of siloed information can uncover previously undiscovered commonality and patterns, introducing fresh perspectives. Putting data and analytics at the forefront, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary and Thames Valley Police are transforming the way they operate by recognising the importance and potential for using data driven insights to make better strategic and operational decisions.
We are looking for a self-motivated and dynamic, data-focused, technical business analyst to work within our newly formed Office of Data Analytics. You will work collaboratively and flexibly with a diverse group of stakeholders, including internal business SMEs, department leads, external partners, technical SMEs and data professionals to elicit, capture and document requirements for a number of deliverables which form our Data & Systems roadmap, separate projects and BAU activities, most notably the extension of our Azure hosted data & visualisation platform. Providing the critical link between our customers and data engineers, the successful applicant will define requirements through several degrees of technical granularity, supporting the creation of data products from concept to delivery.
Role Responsibilities
:
Document and define requirements from a business, stakeholder and technical perspective (functional and non-functional)
Interrogate source systems via front-end (UI) and back-end to better understand data transformation and modelling requirements
Form effective relationships with technical staff and end-users to help less-technical stakeholders understand the capabilities and functionality of the D&V platform and data products
Demonstrate experience in the use of core business analysis tools, techniques, workshop facilitation, process mapping and structured documentation
Person Specification:
Good and effective communications skills (written and verbal)
Previous experience working as a technical business analyst on data, digital or technical projects
An understanding of data structures and data models
Strong experience working on projects run using an Agile methodology
Exposure to data programmes and enterprise data platforms (desirable)
An interest in data analysis and exposure to reporting/visualisation tools e.g. Power BI (desirable)
Awareness or familiarity with programming languages used for data analysis, manipulation and visualisation e.g. Python, SQL (desirable)
Experience using Azure DevOps (desirable)
