Role Overview





This developmental role reports to the Technical Maintenance Manager and is designed to provide a platform for a staff member with a technical background seeking to expand their capabilities within the Condition Monitoring sector. The incumbent within this position shall be working towards a BINDT VA Category 2 certification which shall allow them to perform industrial machinery vibration measurements, conduct basic vibration analysis using single-channel methods, interpret test results, diagnose common fault indications, recommend corrective actions, and provide technical guidance to Category 1 analysts. The role shall be working towards a level whereby you can provide comprehensive support to oversee and manage fleetwide condition assessment and monitoring - processes, analysis, contracts, reporting and assist in decisions being made based on this data.


Principal Accountabilities





Management of department processes should be in line with company expectations and ensuring consultation is completed with relevant process reviewers when adding, amending, deleting, and reviewing owned processes.


Condition Monitoring



Support the management of the oil analysis and vibration monitoring condition assessment programmes. Including, but not limited to; the management of contracts, receipt and review of all reports, ensuring recommendations are enacted (work included or removed as appropriate based on the output of the analysis reports). Jointly responsible for contractor management including RAMS delivery and scheduling of annual vessel visits as per the condition assessment programmes. Conducting condition assessment and monitoring tasking on vessels in the fleet as instructed by the Technical Condition Assessment Manager and Technical Maintenance Manager. Supporting the establishment of baseline enhanced condition assessment of all vessels in the fleet. Provision of reports to Fleet Management Department and Vessel Crews for review, ensuring that all issues and concerns highlighted are scoped for inclusion into the maintenance plan. Identifying and driving improvements to the conditioning monitoring programmes and processes. Supporting Technical Condition Assessment Manager with provision of leading, rather than reactive, data allowing the Vessel Reliability Meeting to consider & introduce improvement opportunities. Support the production of Condition Assessment Programme budgets for vessels' investigation and analysis, and control internal and external costs in line with the agreed CAP budget. Provision of Condition Assessment information and trends captured by planned maintenance system and Defect Management System. Conduct condition monitoring capability on current and new vessels to maximise condition assessment efficiency.

Stakeholder Liaison



Liaison with relevant Chief Engineers, as required, to enable condition assessment and monitoring activities to take place ensuring issues and risks are highlighted and being resolved or mitigated appropriately. In conjunction with the Procurement Department, support the management of any condition monitoring and assessment contracts.
Participation in specified Operational meetings as directed by Technical Maintenance Manager or Technical Condition Assessment Manager.
Work collaboratively, as directed by Technical Maintenance Manager or Technical Condition Assessment Manager, with the Fleet Management Department of CalMac Ferries Ltd via dedicated meetings between the condition assessment team and technical superintendents (TS), frequency to be determined through process, in order to hand over condition assessment output and track TS progression and completion of actions. This will ensure quality of service to ferry users, and maximising fleet performance, resilience and reliability by optimising condition assessment and monitoring regimes.

General Tasking



To support Continual Improvement processes and improve the processes and procedures for condition assessment and monitoring management, ensuring lessons are identified and learned post every event and shared and aligned with wider stakeholders. Developmental Taskings



If not already in possession, then attaining BINDT VA Category 1 is essential during the first 6 months probationary period (highly desirable for this to be earlier than 6 months). All opportunities for this shall be given by CFL to achieve this including mentoring by suitable staff during site visits until suitably qualifier and experienced to take readings on your own. By 18 months in service, it is expected that you will attain BINDT VA Category 2 and can read, understand and interrogate condition monitoring datasets. Also, attainment of BINDT Level 1 IRT during this 18-month period is essential. Achievement of the above will be facilitated through training and mentoring facilitated by a qualified 3rd party who are certified to provide training to the appropriate levels. Online mentoring shall focus on understand the readings, picking out trends and assessing how you report to the wider business. Full achievement of all the above will result in a change in role to "Technical Condition Assessment Analyst".


Qualifications, Skills & Experience



Essential



Hold an Engineering based HNC qualification or equivalent qualification. A demonstrable background within a Technical Engineering sector, preferably Marine/offshore background or heavy industrial engineering. In the absence of the highly desirable BINDT Vibration Analyst CAT I, then experience of uplifting Vibration Analysis readings is essential. An understanding of the various aspects of Condition Monitoring and in combination, how they enable proactive interventions to ensure reliability. Knowledge of lubrication applications, sampling and interpretation of results. Proven experience in all aspects of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to deal with staff and build relationships at all levels both internally and externally. Proven verbal and written communication skills. Strong document, data and process management skills. Ability to collate and report effective management information. Driving licence and ability to travel regularly within the CFL Network.

Desirable



Hold a suitable Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification. 3 yrs+ experience in a similar role preferred. Highly desirable BINDT Vibration Analyst CAT I. Highly desirable BINDT Thermographer CAT I. Highly desirable BINDT Lubrication Management CAT I. Experience in commercial ship operations and management. Experience within maritime or similar industry, capable of exercising sound judgement in both proactive and reactive condition analytic techniques. Experience in quality management systems, processes and procedures. * Knowledge of vessel or asset surveying, including but not limited to hydraulics, electrics, oil analysis, dropped objects and ultrasonic.
