Job Description

Technical Designer / Production Manager

Barnstaple, North Devon

35,000 - 45,000 DOE | Full-time | Permanent

About the Role

Join a unique, fast-growing design and build business working on bespoke, design-led interior and fabrication projects across the UK (mainly London).

We're looking for a technically minded, detail-driven individual to take a key role in our delivery team, leading on technical design and supporting production management across our diverse, high-quality projects.

You'll bridge the gap between creative concept and finished product -- ensuring every design is practical, buildable, and delivered to the highest standard.

Could it be time for a relocation to beautiful Devon, next to Exmoor and the stunning coastline?

Technical Design & Production Management

Technical Design

Produce and develop comprehensive technical drawing packages, including GA plans, RCPs, Small Power layouts, elevations, signage, and joinery details. Work closely with in-house designers and project managers to translate creative concepts into accurate, buildable technical drawings and specifications. Ensure all designs are practical, compliant, and within budget while maintaining creative integrity. Prepare and refine detailed technical documentation for fabrication and installation, coordinating with suppliers and contractors to confirm feasibility and accuracy. Attend client and project meetings as a key technical representative, providing clarity on design intent, construction methods, and material choices. Carry out site visits to verify dimensions, assess progress, and ensure works align precisely with design intent. Proactively identify potential design or production challenges early and propose creative, cost-effective solutions. Collaborate across departments to maintain consistent technical standards and support continual improvement of Bobblehat's design delivery processes.
As a key member of our delivery team, you'll play an essential role in ensuring that every project transitions seamlessly from concept to completion.

Production Management

Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and the in-house team to ensure smooth production workflows from concept through to completion. Oversee procurement activities, ensuring materials and components are accurately specified, ordered on time, and delivered in line with project schedules. Monitor production timelines to keep projects on track and within budget, resolving any issues quickly and effectively. Negotiate with suppliers to achieve best value for clients and the business while upholding high quality standards. Support production progress and uphold craftsmanship excellence across all stages of delivery. Proactively resolve on-site issues in collaboration with contractors, suppliers, and the design team.

Team Collaboration & Additional Responsibilities

Support the development and refinement of Bobblehat's design and production processes to drive efficiency and quality. Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and managing expectations effectively. Collaborate with the wider Bobblehat team on larger projects and contribute innovative ideas to the business. Take on account and project management responsibilities where required, including project handovers. Support and mentor junior team members or freelancers to maintain high standards across all projects. Occasionally work overtime when required to meet project deadlines or delivery targets.
