Technical Director - Engineering & Business Development
Location: Cambridge

We're looking for a highly motivated, commercially minded engineering leader to head up a growing office and take ownership of business development, client relationships, and project delivery. This is a key strategic hire for a consultancy looking to strengthen its position in the region, drive new project wins, and build long-term client partnerships.
You'll be the technical lead for the office - setting standards, supporting the team, guiding project delivery - while also being the person at the front of BD, networking with clients, securing new opportunities, and shaping the direction of the business.
For the right person, there is a clear pathway to shareholding and future directorship.
What You'll Be Doing

• Leading the office across technical delivery, client relationships, and commercial performance
• Driving business development: identifying opportunities, winning work, and converting leads
• Acting as the main point of contact for clients, providing a professional and proactive service
• Overseeing project delivery from concept through to completion
• Providing hands-on engineering input where required
• Supporting, mentoring, and developing the engineering team
• Contributing to the strategic growth of the business
• Playing a key role in building a strong regional presence

What We're Looking For

• Strong background in Structural engineering (Chartered)
• Experience delivering projects within a consultancy environment
• Proven ability to win work, build relationships, and grow client accounts
• Someone who is self-driven, proactive, and comfortable being the "face" of the business
• Confident communicator with genuine commercial awareness
• Ambition to step into a leadership role with long-term progression to shareholder/director
