Overview of the role




Mott MacDonald is a uniquely diverse employee-owned, engineering and development consultancy serving the public and private sector around the world. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to become a Software Engineering Technical team lead within our Project Delivery Model team. The home office location is London, where you will join and become a key part of our global team and business.



As the Technical Lead, you will cultivate, mentor, and propel an innovative and dynamic team tasked with developing and maintaining our future estate of cutting-edge digital applications across the group. Our goal is to revolutionize how infrastructure owners and operators interact with infrastructure at both city and national scales.



Key responsibilities and duties include:

Collaborate closely with stakeholders, cross-functional group managers, and global engineering leads to ensure consistency and excellence in application development and governance Mentor and foster the growth of a forward-thinking team dedicated to developing next-generation digital applications Oversee the planning, design, development, execution, and maintenance of software applications that seamlessly scale across our organization and client base Operate at all levels, providing strategic insights while delving into the intricate details of application development as required A commitment to high quality applications and be able to pay attention to detail Lead the estimation process, evaluate risks, and mentor team members to enhance their skills and adherence to companywide software development best practices

Candidate specification




Essential:

Degree in computer science or software engineering, with at least 8 years of relevant work experience, including experience in technical leadership and people management Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a collaborative, cross-functional team across multiple countries (United Kingdom, India, New Zealand, and United States) Strong communication, technical, and managerial skills Familiarity with modern cloud-first application patterns (MS Azure) Proficiency in one of the following languages Python, JavaScript (ES2016), C#, PostgreSQL Familiarity with containerized workloads and Kubernetes environment Familiarity in MS PowerPlatform would be beneficial Understanding of the importance of communication, simplicity, and reliability in decision-making processes
