We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Technical Manager to lead all technical aspects of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including system design, product development, and ongoing technical evolution. This role will focus on developing robust, compliant, and high-performing energy storage solutions that align with the latest advancements in grid and distributed energy applications.
The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in energy systems, strong leadership in product lifecycle development, and a hands-on mindset when it comes to field support, compliance, and cross-functional training. They'll also be adept at interpreting market trends and operational constraints into impactful operational strategies.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Lead the development and validation of BESS designs and control systems.
Manage technical relationships with suppliers, integrators, and manufacturing partners.
Evaluate and implement new technologies across battery chemistries, monitoring platforms, and control systems.
Establish and maintain system monitoring frameworks for multi-OEM integration.
Provide technical support for commissioning, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance activities.
Oversee compliance with relevant UK and EU electrical and safety regulations.
Develop and deliver technical training materials to support internal teams and partners.
Promote continuous improvement in design, performance, safety, and scalability.
Collaborate with commercial and operations teams to ensure technical feasibility and performance in project delivery.
Person Specification:
Education, Qualifications & Experience Criteria
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, or equivalent technical discipline
5-10 years of industry experience in BESS, EV charging, or power system integration
Expertise in battery technologies, including LFP and other emerging chemistries
Strong understanding of grid-tied applications, electrical codes (BS 7671), and EMS/SCADA
Proven ability to train, mentor, and lead multidisciplinary teams
Knowledge of field operations, including warranty, repair logistics, and diagnostics
Familiarity with installation compliance, H&S, and local authority permitting standards
Professional affiliations or active engagement with networks such as REA, ESA, or EV industry groups
