Job Description

Yorkshire Farmhouse Eggs are a successful family run egg production and marketing business based near Thirsk, North Yorkshire. We have a wide customer base ranging from smaller independent retailers, food service, wholesale and the major multiples.

We are looking for a new Technical Manager to join our team.

Quality Assurance & Food Safety



Oversee and maintain site-wide food safety systems (HACCP, BRCGS, Lion Code, RSPCA, etc.)

Ensure eggs are handled, graded, and packed according to hygiene, quality, and traceability standards

Monitor egg quality including shell integrity, cleanliness, and internal quality (Haugh unit, yolk color, etc.)

Manage compliance with allergen control, cleaning schedules, and environmental monitoring

Regulatory Compliance



Ensure full compliance with UK and EU egg legislation (e.g., Egg Marketing Regulations, Food Hygiene Regulations)

Ensure accurate labeling, coding, and traceability of all packed products

Liaise with external bodies such as the British Egg Industry Council (BEIC), DEFRA, and local Environmental Health Officers

Audit & Certification Management



Lead customer, retailer, and third-party audits (BRCGS, Red Lion, etc.)

Maintain and update technical documentation, including risk assessments, specifications, and site records

Ensure full traceability from farm to dispatch, and manage mock recalls and mass balance exercises

Team Leadership



Manage and develop the QA and hygiene teams, ensuring adherence to procedures and high standards

Deliver training across departments on hygiene, food safety, and site standards

Promote a quality and safety-focused culture throughout the site

Customer & Supplier Interface



Respond to customer complaints and implement corrective/preventive actions

Approve and monitor suppliers of eggs, packaging, and other materials for compliance with technical standards

Support NPD or product variation where required (e.g., organic, free range, enriched, etc.)

Continuous Improvement



Investigate root causes of non-conformances and customer complaints

Identify and implement process improvements to reduce breakages, improve shelf life, and optimize packing efficiency

Introduce automation or software tools to enhance data recording and analysis

Qualifications & Experience:



Degree or equivalent in Food Science, Agriculture, Microbiology, or related field

3-5 years' experience in a technical/QA role in a food manufacturing or egg packing environment

Strong understanding of the Lion Code, BRCGS Food Safety, HACCP, and UK/EU egg regulations

Experience with quality control techniques and lab-based egg testing

Familiarity with audit procedures and customer standards (retail and foodservice)

Preferred Skills:



Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor certification (e.g., HACCP Level 3 or 4)

Experience working with ERP/QMS systems for traceability

Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Knowledge of animal welfare standards related to egg sourcing (e.g., free range, organic)

Understanding of packaging standards and shelf-life extension for eggs
