Job Description

The position works on the 5-shift system working 2 days/2 nights/4 off shift pattern. Each working shift is 12 hours. Day shifts are 06:00 - 18:00, night shifts are 18:00 - 06:00. This pattern includes weekends and most bank holidays with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Every 8 week rotation there is an 18 day break with one day allocated to training. There is a 1 hour paid break during each 12 hour shift. The salary for this position is 31,212 (which includes a shift premium).

The position will require monitoring of chemical reactions and undertaking distillations, separations, transfers, filtrations, and powder handling. The use of vacuum systems, nitrogen and control panels will be required as will flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing processes. The plant has designated areas which work to GMP and understanding and following these principles is a job requirement.

You will be an experienced process operative ideally coming from a chemical manufacturing environment. You should have an excellent attitude towards health and safety and be familiar with COSHH and risk assessments. You should ideally have completed an IOSH Working Safely qualification. It would be beneficial for you to hold a current counter balance fork lift truck licence.

You should possess at least GCSEs at grade 'C' or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English. A relevant vocational qualification at Level 2 or above would be advantageous.

There will be 2 shutdown periods for a week in the year, one in summer and one at Christmas. During each of these weeks personnel affected by the shutdown will not be required to attend work from the Monday at 06:00 until the Saturday at 06:00. Production will restart on the Saturday at 06.00 and all personnel affected by the shutdown should return to work as per normal. As these employees will be paid for this time off there will be a system of accrual / payback of hours in place.
