An opportunity has arisen for a highly organised and enthusiastic Technical Parts Engineer with experience of working in a manufacturing, engineering or similar environment to provide an efficient service to internal departments owning all enquiries for technical spare parts for a major supplier of cranes, lifting and handling equipment.
Working for the market leader in heavy plant lifting equipment sales, rental and aftercare the Technical Parts Engineer will join an organisation with over 60 years' experience supplying heavy lifting equipment to the port and mining industries of West & Central Africa.
The ideal candidate will be technically minded with experience of managing customers, suppliers and manufacturers, preferably within the heavy lifting industry. The role requires logical thinking and the ability to take a deep dive into technical publications. Strong communications needed to work alongside our engineering and commercial parts teams with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritise their workload in a busy, pressured environment are key.
Main responsibilities will be to:
Deal with enquiries for spare parts received directly from the Parts Team deciphering machine malfunction to assess parts required or via Engineers working with clients
Help the parts team deal with discrepancies where a technical input is required.
Build relationships with, suppliers, manufacturers and company Engineers
Source parts from alternative reputable suppliers when required (e.g. when suppliers cannot deliver in required timeframe), ensuring they match specifications and ensure quality.
Suggest alternative, technically proven parts for items which are obsolete
Advise subsidiaries and Parts Team on substitution or modification of parts when identical replacements are not available
Prepare specialised (i.e. Accident Reports) parts quotations for customers using all resources including online resources, parts books, drawings, supplier pricing information
Answer questions from relevant teams on technical parts enquires so they may keep customers updated.
Help build recommended parts lists based on parts which are required based on Sales feedback.
Record all data of successful parts sourcing and share with the Parts team through internal training.
What We're Looking For:
Degree or Apprenticeship in in mechanical or electrical engineering.
Experience working on heavy equipment preferred.
Ability to read schematics and drawings mandatory.
Highly organised with the ability to prioritise own workload in a busy pressured environment
Good level of education (Mathematics and English GCSE or equivalent)
Excellent interpersonal skills
Computer literate, strong demonstrable knowledge of MS Office, in particular Excel
Able to demonstrate strong administrative and organisational skills
Strong attention to detail with a good level of numeracy
French language skills would be beneficial but not essential
