Job Description

The Commercial Division is a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team responsible for driving business development, program delivery, and client engagement across global defence and security markets. The division is comprised of a lean but highly capable group of professionals (5-10 core members), including specialists in business development, program management, operations, and client services.

The team works in a fast-paced environment at the intersection of cutting-edge maritime technology and defence capability requirements. Collaboration, adaptability, and precision are central to the group's culture, with each member contributing to both strategic initiatives and hands-on delivery. The team is closely integrated with Kraken's engineering and operations functions, ensuring seamless translation of customer needs into practical solutions and demonstrations.

The Technical Sales Engineer has a strong background in solicitation based writing (RFPs, RFQs, BAAs, etc.) to support our business development and capture efforts. This role is not focused on technical manuals or support documentation, it is strategically aligned with winning new business through compelling, compliant and customer-focused proposals and presentations.

About the role:

We are seeking a highly motivated Technical Sales Engineer to join our growing team. This is a pivotal role at the intersection of engineering, research, and commercial strategy, offering the opportunity to work on cutting edge technologies and engage directly with customers, internal teams, and industry stakeholders.

This position requires both strong technical expertise and excellent communication skills, with a focus on delivering value-driven solutions in a dynamic and innovative environment.

Key responsibilities:



Work closely with sales, business development, commercial, engineering, product, and autonomy teams to align technical capabilities with business goals. Develop a deep understanding of our products and R&D initiatives. Participate in testing, demonstrations, design reviews, and development milestones. Lead the technical aspects of bids and proposals--defining scope, estimating effort, and creating schedules to ensure solutions meet customer requirements. Act as a trusted technical advisor to a diverse portfolio of sovereign and international customers, providing insight and ensuring clear value for money. Represent Kraken at trade shows, conferences, and customer demonstrations, showcasing technical expertise and supporting market growth. Identify new opportunities, contribute to product roadmaps, and help shape the future direction of our maritime solutions.

Essential requirements:



Must be eligible to work in the UK Must be eligible for and maintain SC Clearance Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly Background in Systems Engineering or equivalent technical training/experience (degree level or equivalent) Significant experience in proposal or technical writing, ideally in engineering, defence, maritime or unmanned systems sectors Proven experience responding to UK Government and MOD solicitations Strong understanding of procurement frameworks Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office and documentation tools Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines Experience operating in fast paced, high pressure environments

Desirable requirements:



Experience in marine autonomy, robotics or defence Degree in English, Communications, Engineering, or related field
