TekAlloy are looking for a technically minded and commercially driven Technical Sales Engineer to join a well-established heavy engineering business based in Wakefield.
Our client, a recognised leader in industrial machinery and processing equipment, is seeking an ambitious sales professional with a strong mechanical engineering background. This role offers the chance to combine technical expertise with business development, working closely with customers to deliver tailored solutions and drive company growth.
In this role you'll be engaging directly with customers across the UK and overseas, providing both technical support and commercial leadership. You'll manage relationships, identify new business opportunities, and support projects from initial enquiry through to delivery.
This position would suit an engineer who is wanting to move into technical sales, or a sales professional with strong mechanical engineering knowledge, looking to further their career in a role offering both variety and responsibility.
Duties
Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, understanding their needs and delivering tailored solutions
Identify new sales opportunities and markets while protecting margins
Prepare and deliver presentations, proposals, and product demonstrations
Negotiate contracts and close sales to achieve targets
Conduct technical assessments and site visits to specify the correct solutions
Review customer specifications and drawings to prepare accurate proposals and costings
Provide technical support and guidance, explaining complex concepts clearly
Use internal sales IT systems to prepare quotations, track orders, and maintain accurate records
Prepare regular reports on sales performance, forecasts, and market analysis
We're looking for someone with:
An apprentice-trained Mechanical Engineering background (degree desirable)
Strong technical knowledge of heavy engineering products and solutions
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (metric & imperial)
A proven track record of working with subcontractors/suppliers to provide accurate quotations
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
A self-motivated, problem-solving mindset with a hands-on approach
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel (including overseas as required)
