The technical services team is an essential part of the everyday workings of the ACM Guildford campus, providing technical support for studio equipment faults, maintaining and improving on site facilities, ensuring the safe and appropriate use of buildings and supporting other departments in a technical manner. The team ensures the smooth running and maintenance of technical equipment to facilitate a safe and operational learning and working environment for students and staff.
Role purpose
The purpose of the Technical Services Technician role is to support the Technical Services team to deliver efficient and practicable solutions that ensure the smooth running of the day to day operations of the ACM Guildford Campus. The role reports to the Technical Services Manager and involves both reactionary and planned maintenance, with a strong focus on independent working.
Main responsibilities
Communicate effectively with the TSM and wider team to provide updates, progress reports and seek approval for further action
Utilise Helpdesk, email, google calendar and Celcat to efficiently manage workflow
Assist and communicate with other departments to identify collaborative needs, seeking approval from the TSM as necessary
Assist with the maintenance of the functionality, the security and of health and safety schedules for all campus buildings and Technical Services work areas
Monitor and report on condition of equipment and facilities
Accommodate attendance of essential personnel such as external contractors, interested parties etc
Communicate with staff and students regarding limitations, closures, equipment maintenance and privileges
Accommodate equipment, plant and vehicle service schedules, repairs and maintenance
Assist with building, equipment and instrument maintenance, repair and replacement
Assist with redecoration, refurbishment and refresh of rooms, studios and communal spaces as deemed necessary by TSM
Carry out all tasks assigned by the Technical Services Manager including responding to immediate technical faults, assisting with planned maintenance and maintaining periodic maintenance such as PAT testing and periodic security updates
Effectively and reliably securing rooms and buildings

Essential
Basic computer and administrative skills with familiarity of google workspace
Reliable, organised and capable of working independently
Studio skills - either experience working within music studios or a competent educational background
Ability to manoeuvre musical equipment, such as amps, with or without assistance and/or use of assistive equipment
Approachable, professional manner with clear written and oral communication skills
Candidate must be able to maintain a polite professional approach, even in high pressured situations
Good team working skills and ability to build and maintain working relationships with colleagues, other staff, students and external contractors alike
Ability to multitask in a high paced environment
Excellent attention to detail
Positive workplace attitude and approach to tasks, problems and people
Willingness to participate in the emergency evacuation team and learn about fire safety
Willingness to adopt a flexible working schedule approach, including early starts or late finishes, to assist with covering essential areas in the event of absence, holiday and sickness.
Desirable
Full manual driving licence
Experience with maintenance or repair of instruments, amps or other studio based musical equipment
Previous experience with soldering
Experience, or formal training, with PAT testing
Experience with refurbishment, decorating and basic maintenance with use of hand held tools - whether in a formal or casual environment
Previous experience in a role as key holder
Experience operating, maintaining or repairing SSL desks
Experience operating, maintaining or repairing Audient desks
Experience operating, maintaining or repairing MIDAS Live production desks
