Engineering Stores Operative

Job Summary:



The Engineering Stores Operative will be responsible for the efficient management of the warehouse and stock, ensuring that all components, tools, and materials required for installations are available, well-organised, and accurately tracked. This role requires a strong understanding of pipe fittings, electrical components, chemicals used in water features, and general warehouse practices. You will play a key part in supporting the operations and installation teams by maintaining optimal stock levels and a safe, efficient working environment.

Key Responsibilities:



Stock Management & Control:

Receive, inspect, and store incoming goods including mechanical, electrical, and chemical supplies. Issue stock items accurately and in a timely manner to project and installation teams. Monitor stock usage and replenish inventory as necessary, minimising delays or project disruptions. Monitor chemical usage and replenish inventory ensuring during our peak period we have the required quantities in stock at all time. Conduct regular and scheduled stock takes, ensuring accurate records and identifying discrepancies.

Ordering & Procurement:

Liaise with suppliers to source components, secure quotes, and place purchase orders in line with project timelines. Ensure cost-effective purchasing while maintaining quality standards. Maintain strong supplier relationships and track delivery schedules to prevent stock shortages.

Warehouse Organisation:

Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised warehouse space in accordance with health and safety regulations. Implement and maintain a labelling and storage system for all parts and materials. Safely store and handle chemicals and hazardous substances in compliance with COSHH regulations.

Documentation & Systems:

Maintain accurate stock records Prepare and submit stock reports, usage summaries, and order logs to management. Track and document returns, damaged goods, and warranty issues.

Support to Operations:

Collaborate with installation and maintenance teams to ensure project-specific materials are ready and prepared in advance. Assist with the preparation of project kits and packing for site delivery or installation. Identify and recommend improvements to stock control processes and warehouse operations.

Skills & Experience Required:



Proven experience in a similar stores, warehouse, or stock control role, ideally within a construction, plumbing, electrical, or technical environment. Good working knowledge of:

Pipe fittings

(PVC, ABS, stainless steel, etc.)

Electrical components

(pumps, control panels, cabling, connectors)

Chemicals

(cleaning agents, water treatment chemicals, etc.) Ability to interpret technical drawings and installation requirements is a plus. Computer literate with experience in inventory/stock management systems. Physically fit and able to safely lift and handle materials and equipment Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive mindset. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
